The Godhead, consisting of God (Yahweh) and the Word (Jehovah) have existed from “the beginning” (Jn. 1:1-4,14). As far as man is concerned, history begins with the creation of the universe by Elohim–the Gods of Genesis 1:1. We do not know how many eons Elohim waited to create the universe as we know it. Nor do we know the time span between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2–possibly millions of eons. That, obviously, is none of man’s business, at least not for now. Christ’s promise: “You shall know the Truth ….” is true. But some Truth is for a later date, and only for those who are with Him at that future time. Only those who know, believe and walk according to the Holy Bible will be with Elohim (the two Gods of the Godhead) in the Kingdom of God. Read The Kingdom of God and Who Are God’s People. Key words–Kingdom and People respectively. Henceforth, the Words God, the Lord, the Almighty, etc. will refer to either the Godhead, God, Christ or Both. In that they are “one,” it usually does not matter which term is used. When it matters, the narrative will indicate to which Member of the Godhead the term is being applied.
The focus of this series concerns the part the Old Testament plays in the life of God’s true saints and its rejection by the vast majority within professing Christendom. The Old Testament comprises approximately 80% of His Holy Bible–His Law of love to all of mankind in which He tells man how to qualify to spend eternity with Him and His Son. Let us begin now to “hear” what They “tell” us through the writings of their “holy men of old who spoke (and wrote) as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Pet. 1:21). The Apostle Paul tells us that God’s dealings with His Old Testament people were recorded and preserved to be used to instruct true saints living at the end of the age (1 Cor. 10:11)–the time in which we now find ourselves, the time which Jesus identified as the Laodicean age in Revelation 3:14-20. Read that passage for the Lord’s description of the modern church.
In order to establish Christ’s place in the ancient Scriptures we need to establish His divinity, which He did in John 14:7-9: “If you knew Me, you would know My Father also. From now on you will know Him and will have seen Him …. Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father.” In 10:30 He had shocked a group of Jews by stating that: “I and the Father are one,” for which they took up stones to kill Him for committing what to them amounted to blasphemy. By making that statement Jesus was announcing His equality with God–His Son. What does that make those among men today whom God calls His sons–known as “sons of God?” Romans 8:14 tells us that they who are led by the Spirit of God are “SONS OF GOD” AS JESUS AS A MAN WAS THE SON OF GOD. In the eyes of God, they are no different. Read John 14:12 and think about what it says about those who are led by the Holy Spirit today. The Book of Acts will return soon. This version will make the first version pale by comparison. Read The Gun …. Key word–Gun.
In order to answer the question: “Who is God? What is He like,” one need only read about Jesus of Nazareth–a man in every way who, through the power of the Holy Spirit, was in fact God in human form. That same Spirit is available to mankind today. God’s Very Elect have received that same Spirit and are living as Jesus lived (“walking as He walked”–1 Jn. 2:6) and are “… overcoming (Satan) even as He overcame him” which will enable them to “sit with Him on His throne” in the soon-coming Kingdom of God (Rev. 3:21).
In the first verse of his Gospel, the Apostle John explains Christ’s part in the creation of the universe : “In the beginning (of creation) was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was (also a) God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things (in the universe) were made and without Him nothing was made that was made.” As King David put it: “He spoke, and it (what He spoke) came into existence” (Ps. 33:9). John went on to say about the Word: “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We have seen His glory (as a man), the glory of the One and Only (Christ) Who came from the Father, full of grace and Truth” (1:3,14). In this life we are commanded to “walk as He walked” and therefore share in the glory of the Father as did the man Jesus of Nazareth (2 Cor. 1:20). GOD’S VERY ELECT SAINTS BEAR THE GLORY OF GOD AS DID THE MAN JESUS. But remember, the world did not recognize Him for who He was. They nailed Him to a cross. They accused Him of having a devil and of doing what He did by the devil’s power. A woman accused me of healing her using witchcraft. God told me He would kill her. He did a few weeks later. No medical reason could be found for her death. She simply went to sleep and did not wake up. DO NOT BLASPHEME GOD’S HOLY SPIRIT, WHICH IS WHAT THAT WOMAN DID.
The fact that the Word was a God equal to the other God is shown in Philippians 2:5-8 where we are told that the Word and God were equal in every way while They were together in heaven before His (the Word) coming to earth as Jesus of Nazareth. He did not hesitate to strip Himself of His divinity and to be born of a woman and enter the world like every other human being: “Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus (before His incarnation) Who, being in the form of (the other) God, thought it was not wrong to be equal to Him. He made Himself like all other men by stripping Himself of His divinity and took on Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of (other) men. And being then as all other men, He humbled Himself and became obedient (to God) unto death, even death on a cross.” Jesus became as all other men to set THE example–the pattern to be emulated–for those who would spend eternity with Him and His Father. When people see God’s true saints they must see Jesus. That is what it will take to be one of His Very Elect who will rise to meet Him in the first resurrection. Many, He said, have been called to walk as He walked as a man. Few, He said, would answer the call (Mat.7:13,14; 22:14). Let us be among the chosen few. Read The Three Resurrections. Key word–Resurrections.
Throughout eternity God and the Word have been together (one) spiritually. That oneness did not end while the Word was a man living on earth. In the eyes of God, the One Who became His Son by being born of a woman never stopped being Who and What He was–the King of the Kingdom of God which is now in heaven but will be erected on earth by Jesus Christ upon His return: “But to the Son He (God) says, ‘Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom” (Heb. 1:8). God and the Word, Who became His human Son upon His human birth, existed in spiritual oneness throughout eternity as co-equal Gods. There never was a time when Jesus was not one with the Father. The Word’s becoming His human Son did not change this. As a man, Jesus was still one with God. AND THEIR TRUE SAINTS ARE ONE WITH THEM IN THIS LIFE. Read Oneness With God. Key word–Oneness. L.J.
