Satan hates every human being on earth. Beginning with the creation of Adam and Eve, through the present and into the unforeseeable future, every human being who will ever be born has been, is and will be the object of his rage. Those whom he has already deceived into embracing him are not spared his venom which he spreads throughout the human race. He even hates those in his own church system–Catholicism/Protestantism–because they continue to give lip service to the Biblical God (Mat. 15:8). The fact that they believe and obey his (Satan’s) perverted gospel while openly rejecting God’s gospel (Gal. 1:6-9) does not alter his attitude toward them.
Though his hatred toward the Counterfeit Church is great, there is a tiny group of people whom he holds in ultimate contempt. This “little flock,” which God also calls His “remnant,” not only proclaim their belief in and worship of the Biblical God, but prove it by obeying Him. These are His “Very Elect” who have embraced Him as their Lord as well as their Savior, knowing that only those who embrace Him as their Lord (Master) in this life will be saved by Him in the next one. These “few” who have entered His “strait gate” and are walking “His narrow way” (Mat. 7:13,14) are sanctified (set aside for righteous living) by Him through His Word, which Jesus identifies as His Truth (Jn. 17:17). These are they who walk (live) as Jesus walked during His time on earth (1 Jn. 2:6) and continually purify themselves (1 Jn. 3:6) by exhibiting their faith in His Word (Rom. 10:19). This tiny group of believers is the subject of this series. This series will reveal why the devil holds a special contempt for the Lord’s “little flock.”
In Revelation 12:12 we are told that Satan is furious because he knows his time as god of the earth is drawing to a close. His spiritual disciples/angels, known Biblically as “devils” or “demons,” also know that the end is near, which causes them to tremble (Jam. 2:19). Why are they so upset? Having both the churched and the unchurched world under their power and doing their bidding, one would assume that they would be content. But God tells us that this is not the case. So why are they in a trembling rage over a few thousand souls? The general answer is that Satan and his angels want to own and control the entirety of humanity so as to take them into the Lake of Fire with them. However, I prefer to deal in specifics whenever possible. The Holy Bible makes it possible to approach this subject the way the Lord commands us to approach all spiritual subjects. We are told in Isaiah 28:9,10 and 2 Timothy 2:15 that God commands that His Word be studied as specifically as possible. With this in mind, let us determine exactly why the “prince of the power of the air” and his very able assistants are angry and fearful as the end of the age approaches. I have identified four reasons why the “powers of the air” have chosen to attack a few thousand souls with everything in their arsenal. In the following postings we will approach each subject using the only weapon we have–God’s Holy Word. Recall that when Jesus returned from the wilderness following his 40 day fast He used that same weapon–“It is written ….”–against Satan during His temptation. This unchanging “sword of the Spirit” is all we need in our personal battles with that same spirit being. Let us always remember that Jesus was a man while He walked this earth, and as a mortal like the rest of mankind He had only one weapon to use when attacked by the devil and his demons–the Holy Bible. Let us follow His perfect example. L.J.
