Since November 8 many in the nation have been celebrating “America’s Second Revolution.” Donald Trump’s election is being heralded as a break-out salvation act on the part of the American people. I believe that some of what he promised will take place. Industry is expected to return to the country; the military is expected to become strong again; national borders are expected to be reaffirmed; the nation is expected to become energy sufficient; the employment rate is expected to rise, etc. All of these promises might be fulfilled even beyond expectations. Problems in the above-mentioned areas might be solved. We might have another “Roaring 20’s” and “Abundant 50’s” situation. The Technological Revolution might surpass the Industrial Revolution in terms of national success. America’s military keep her enemies at bay. We might once again be the envy of the world. America’s light might once again shine.

But that light will in fact be deep darkness because America’s problems are not of the economic, social, military, etc. variety. America has a singular problem. America’s problem is spiritual. Let us assume that she will rise to her past grandeur, that the world will look to her as the national goal to be sought. If that happens, will she follow in the footsteps of her 1920’s and 1950’s ancestors? Yes, she will. America’s die is cast due to the phenomenon I call the “Generational Slope.” The G.S. reflects the fact each generation grows more physical and less spiritual, and does so exponentially. Each generation finds itself on a slippery slope headed into the abyss. The slope grows ever more slippery and at an ever steeper angle than the previous generation. “Draining the swamp” will not happen–America is a swamp. The toilet in which she blindly swims is about to be flushed. And God’s finger in on the handle. Why?

The greater the nation’s economic success, the smaller the part God plays in the life of her people. Adversity causes people to look upward for help. Success causes people to look inward for help. The American people have invented their own world–a playground in which each have whatever he/she wants when he/she wants it. Each American carries the playground’s control system around in his/her pocket in the form of a small plastic box. Each private universe is controlled with the movement of a finger. A recent study found that Americans spend on average 23 minutes each day trolling their plastic box for something that will entertain them. With their world in their pocket, where is God? The average American, including the churched, thinks little, if any, about the One Whom he/she will answer to on Judgment Day. I know a woman who, when the conversation stays too long on a subject, says: “It’s all about me.” She thinks she is joking. But she isn’t because she is addicted to her idiot box that answers her commands instantly and continuously. In reality, in her world it is all about her. She is only one of millions who live in that same nether world where their every wish becomes their box’s command. Modern man can do without God, not so his plastic world-producer.

Donald Trump might make America great again. But she is doomed to death, destruction and enslavement because she has her eyes on the wrong prize. Her light will in reality be darkness in that the Biblical God will not be a part of it. America and the entire Western Christian World all share a basic problem–all believe that solving their social, economic, health, immigrant, crime, safety, etc. problems will place them on a smooth sailing course. What they do not see is the storm gathering in the distance as the wrath of God heads in their direction. God warns about this in 1 Timothy 5:3 where He says that men, having gained control of their environment, will happily declare “peace, peace” believing that all is well. But when they least expect it, “then sudden destruction commeth upon them.” Yes, peace and prosperity might be in our immediate future, but as sure as God’s Word is Truth (Jn. 17:17), sudden destruction will not be far behind.
