Famous theorist Edmund Burke once said that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Is America in the process of proving him right? A short history lesson will answer the question.
Early on in the 20th century a bright young man suddenly burst onto the Russian political scene equipped with a brilliant idea and the rhetorical ability to sell it to millions of people. Soon the masses were following him, hanging onto his every word and vowing to follow him.
Early on in the 20th century another bright young man suddenly burst onto the German political scene equipped with a brilliant idea and the rhetorical ability to sell it to millions of people. Soon the masses were following him, hanging on his every word and vowing to follow him.
In the midst of the 20th century a bright young man suddenly burst onto the Cuban political scene equipped with a brilliant idea and the rhetorical ability to sell it to millions of people. Soon the masses were following him, hanging onto his every word and vowing to follow him.
In 2008 a bright young man suddenly burst onto the American political scene ….
Let us examine what these four men had in common. Each was virtually unknown prior to his sudden rise in prominence. Each promised prosperity for everyone which would come about by taking from one segment of the society and giving it to another segment of society. Each was an eloquent speaker, drawing huge crowds wherever he went. Each became a political “star,” his adoring fans willing to overlook his many questionable associations and ideas while vilifying anyone who dared to question them. Not one of these men had ever been in charge of anything of importance. Three of the four–Nicolai Lenin, Adolf Hitler and Fidel Castro–led their nations into the hellish grasp of totalitarianism. The fourth–Barach Obama–has done his best to follow in their footsteps but, due to a slightly more enlightened citizenry than his heroes were forced to deal with, has been unable to complete the task. But help is on the way in the person of Hillary Clinton who will pull this nation into a morass that will make her fellow socialists/communists look upon with envy. For those who believe that a totalitarian dictatorship could never arise in the United States, another history lesson is in order.
But first, in order to lay a foundation for the remainder of teaching session we need to examine the moral, political, social and economic evolution that has been taking place in the United States over the past three generations. It is a verifiable fact that each generation is somewhat more liberal than the previous generation. Also, as a nation becomes more prosperous its youth become more liberal. The U.S fits into both of these categories.
The more liberal a generation the less the populace values personal freedom, personal responsibility and small government. Which brings us to the two youngest generations of this present age. Social polls reveal what I have been saying for years–that young people today have no qualms about depending on someone else rather than on themselves. They are also more inclined to accept a lifestyle dictated by and guaranteed by an all-powerful socialist or communist government rather than face the rigors of competing with their contemporaries by working harder, longer and better than they do in order to succeed.
Then there is the moral difference that liberalism brings. To be continued. L.J.
