The Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5,6,7) gives the God-seeker a composite view of the standards a true Christian meets in his daily life. This makes him/her “peculiar” in the eyes of the religious masses. May we all be seen as peculiar; may we all live up to His standards so as to receive eternal life upon the return of His Son. We will look at a few of the statements found in Matthew 5,6,7 but not every one. The reader should study those chapters diligently and periodically. We all need an occasional “refresher course” to make certain that we are walking in the spiritual footprints of Jesus Christ. Only this way can we know that we “know” Him intimately–a requirement for salvation. A miniature refresher course is found in 1 John 2:3-6: “… we know that we know Him if we keep His Commandments (Word-vs 5). He that says, ‘I know Him’ and does not keep His Commandments is a liar and the Truth is not in Him. … he who keeps His Word (Genesis to Revelation), in him is the love of God perfected. Thereby we know that we are (abide-vs 6) in Him. He who abides in Him must walk even as He walked (as a man).” Note that the Truth, God’s Word, love and Jesus Christ must abide in us. Spiritually, the three are one. The Truth is both God’s Word (Jn. 17:17) and Jesus Christ–John 14:6: “I am the way, the Truth and the life. That Jesus is also God’s Word is brought out in John 1:1-4,16 and Revelation 19:13. That God is love is shown in 1 John 4:8. JESUS CHRIST, THE WORD OF GOD, THE TRUTH AND LOVE ARE ONE. HE IS GOD’S WORD, HIS TRUTH AND HIS LOVE IN PRINTED AND SPIRIT FORM, JUST AS HE WAS GOD’S WORD IN HUMAN FORM. This is all provided to us in the Holy Bible. The most important message that can be gleaned from this website is that to reject even one Word found in the Holy Bible is to reject the Truth of God, thereby rejecting both God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son (Jn. 12:44-50). In Mark 10:16-22 we find a rich ruler asking Jesus about eternal life. Note that Jesus “loved him” because he had perfectly obeyed the Ten Commandments all of his life. But there was a problem that had to be eliminated– “one thing” that would disqualify him for eternal life. He rejected Jesus’ Word about that ONE THING and was denied salvation. Billions of church people reject much, if not most of God’s Word and will, barring true conversion, be rejected at the return of Jesus Christ. See the Introduction to this website for a partial list of Biblical doctrines the church rejects. Paul stated that, though he had given his all in God’s service and suffered tremendously for doing so, if he lacked one thing (love) it would all have been for nothing (1 Cor. 13:1-3). Each Word in the Holy Bible is an unchangeable commandment. No one fully understands everything God has told us, but we must understand that everything He said is Truth (Jn. 17:17). I don’t understand gravity or the internet, but I know beyond a doubt that they are real and that they work. Assuming that the reader will carefully study Matthew 5,6 and 7, I will go directly to one statement that perfectly summarizes the Lord’s sermon: “You are the light of the world” (5:14). Here Jesus was addressing those men whom He knew would obey the commands given on the mountain. These were the same men whom He called His “brethren”–men who “… will do the will of My Father in heaven” (Mat. 12:48). What is the will of God? Everything written in His Holy Bible. God’s light is His Word, for in it the path to salvation is recorded. God’s lights are those who walk the walk He has laid out for all mankind to read. Only a “few,” He said in Matthew 7:13,14, will enter His strait gate and walk His narrow path that leads to eternal life. The majority of God-seekers, He warned, will be lured through Satan’s wide gate and tread his broad path that leads to destruction. See Bait and Switch. Because she has direct access to His Word and knows who He is, the church is the Lord’s primary mission field. Because she has known about Him and His Way, she will be held to a higher standard than the unchurched on the Day of Judgment (Lk. 19:10-16). Because they have rejected most of His Words, those within Catholicism/Protestantism are viewed as heathen by the God Who wrote those Words. To not know God’s Truth and fail to obey it is one thing; to know it and not obey it is quite another. To be continued. L.J.
