Titus: Paul’s Letter To God’s Elect (Pt. 1)

The Apostle Paul’s letter to his fellow minister summarizes God’s commanded walk (lifestyle) for those whom He has called, appointed and anointed to do His ministerial work, as well as those who follow their example and live according to their God-directed instructions. This short epistle is as good as it gets relative to God’s instructions for church leadership and laity. We will study Paul’s letter in the order in which Paul so perfectly wrote it, with an occasional side-step.

In verse one Paul identifies himself in the manner that every minister of God should be able to self- identify. First and foremost, a God-called minister is a servant. A SERVANT HAS ONE JOB–CARRYING OUT THE WISHES OF HIS MASTER. A servant is one who serves by doing exactly what he is instructed to do, in the manner he is instructed to do it, when and where he is so instructed. A true servant obeys his master’s orders–no questions, no short-cuts, no evaluating, no substitutes, etc. A GOOD SERVANT OBEYS ORDERS. PERIOD.

The perfect example of a good servant was the human father of the New Testament Church–Abraham. God greatly blessed Abraham because he BELIEVED AND OBEYED what He told him to do. The perfect example of such obedience transpired when God told him to gather his family, animals, servants, etc. and head in a particular direction. God would tell him to stop when he arrived at his destination. With no further instructions, “Abraham departed” (Gen. 12:4). Period. No questions, no comments–just obedience–which is the sign of pure faith. This is why it is written that God’s true saints “walk in the steps of faith of our father Abraham” (Rom. 4:12). Notice that Abraham did the WORKS required to prove his faith. Faith without WORKS (obedience) is dead faith (Jam. 2:10,14,17,18,20,24,26). Faith is a spiritual commodity. In that God’s saints “live by their faith” (Heb. 10:38), dead faith identifies a spiritually dead believer–a false Christian. As Paul states, it is through OBEDIENCE TO GOD’S TRUTH (Word–Jn. 17:17) that creates godliness in true saints. Godliness results from believing and obeying God. Without godliness, no one will enter God’s kingdom. In order to walk WITH Jesus in the next life, one must walk AS Jesus in this life (1 Jn. 2:6/ Rev. 3:21).

In verse two Paul makes a statement that is universally rejected by the Institutional Church–that in this life we have THE HOPE OF SALVATION. In Romans 8:24,25 Paul askes those who believe they are already saved why they hope for what they already have? Salvation and rebirth in this life is one of Satan’s most powerful weapons against God’s Truth. Read Hope and Salvation. Key word–Hope.

In verse three Paul emphasizes the fact that God-called ministers PREACH ONLY HIS WORD. Church doctrine has no place in the life and ministry of a true God-called preacher of Truth. Jesus said that God’s Word is Truth. Man’s interpretation (wishful thinking) of His Word is man’s truth, which is in reality Satan’s truth. Adam and Eve, having embraced Satan’s version of God’s Truth, created their own version of good and evil (Gen. 3:22). The rest is church history which continues to repeat itself with each church generation, thereby creating the apostasy (falling away from God) in which the church now finds itself.

We are told that Abraham BELIEVED GOD (His Words) and it (his belief/faith) was accounted unto him as RIGHTEOUSNESS (Rom. 4:3). Why? Not because he believed what God said, but BECAUSE HE ALSO OBEYED WHAT GOD SAID. Faith alone accomplishes nothing. Satan has great faith–he believes God’s Words. His problem is that he does not obey God’s Words. In the eyes of God, church people who do not obey God occupy the same status as the devil. This means that GOD HATES (despises–Lk. 10:16) THEIR RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES. HE HATES THEIR PREACHING, THEIR BIBLE STUDY, THEIR SINGING, THEIR PRAYING, ETC. Read Jehovah: The God of Hate. Key word–Jehovah.

In verse four Paul reminds Titus that they share a COMMON FAITH. Read “What Faith are You?” Key word–What. This common faith is the same faith that caused God to so richly bless Abraham and so mightily used Jesus of Nazareth and His apostles both early on and today. In Acts 13:10 Paul proclaims that anyone who “perverts the right way of the Lord” (interprets His Words–2 Pet. 1:20) is a “child of the devil.” Satan deceived Adam and Eve into believing his interpretation by adding one word (“not”) to God’s Words relative to punishment for sin. Adam and Eve became children of the devil when they believed obeyed the Serpent. Today, Satan’s false prophets follow that same god when they tell people to reject God’s fourth (Sabbath) commandment. By breaking that commandment they also break the first commandment by embracing another god–Satan, the devil whom they are obeying. In so doing they pervert the true Gospel, which was what the churches of Galatia were doing during Paul’s time of ministry. He pointed out their sin in chapter one verses six through nine.

In verse four Paul tells us that IF we share the common faith embraced by Paul and Titus, we will operate in God’s grace and mercy which produce peace. Let us look at the subject of peace. Let it be known that, because peace is a human feeling, Satan can duplicate it in those who obey him. Those involved in the Catholic/Protestant Religious System known as “the church” have peace even though they openly, repeatedly and proudly defy God’s Words as this ministry repeatedly points out. How can they have peace when Paul tells us that only those who share God’s MUTUAL FAITH are awarded peace? Law-rejecting Church people have peace because they do not believe Paul’s Words to Titus or any other Biblical Truths relative to true peace and obedience to God’s Word. Notice that true peace comes from sharing a mutual faith with God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son. The home page of this website lists a number of Satanic beliefs and customs believed and practiced by billions of people who have “peace.” Their peace is Satan-sent, which is their reward for obeying him. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF SATAN OVER THE CHURCH. L.J.
