Those who know the truth about the trinity theory wonder how the heathen concept became one of the bedrock doctrines of professing Christendom since it was not part of the belief system of the church for the first 300 years of her existence. Nowhere in the Scriptures is a three-headed or three-personed god mentioned. Scripturally, the only personages for whom the title “God” apply are God the Father and God the Son. Nowhere are the words “God the Holy Spirit” found in the writings of the prophets and apostles. The concept did not simply materialize as a part of church doctrine. So how did it become one of the church’s foundation stones?

During the time of the Roman Empire the Catholic Church exerted a great deal of influence over the most powerful political and military entity on earth.  Over time the Roman military came to be the muscle behind the church. Whatever the church hierarchy wanted the government provided. Over time this arrangement became a true church/state entity with the church (woman) riding (directing) the beast (government) as depicted John’s vision as recorded in Revelation 17. The woman was the Catholic Church and the beast was the Roman Empire. Understand that the vision the angel was showing John in approximately 90 A.D. would become a terrifying reality at the end of the age, the age in which we are now living. Hint: Look at the number of European nations that are Catholic. Catholicism is the constitutionally dictated religion of the European Union which is rapidly becoming THE economic and military power in Western Europe. The E.U. controls the same area the Roman Empire ruled during her heyday. The E.U. is the reincarnation of the ancient Roman Empire. And, as was the case originally, the Catholic Church wields great power within the E.U.

As the Roman Empire expanded and swallowed up most of Western Europe it defeated and took captive a number of heathen societies.  Known as city-states, each of those societies worshiped its own particular god and practiced its own brand of religion. The situation within the empire came to feature three distinct entities, all occupying the same territory: an overwhelming power, a great central church and numerous heathen groups.  This arrangement did not sit well with the church’s leadership which insisted that everyone in the empire be Catholic.  They told the government to rectify the situation. Dutifully, the military forced everyone within its scope of power to join the Catholic Church. Those who refused died at the point of a Roman sword. Needless to say, the vast majority of pagans “converted” to Roman Catholicism.  But as church and secular history reveal, not all “converts” became “believers.”

Many of the heathen refused to give up their gods, beliefs and practices. One of those gods had three heads extending from a single body. I have seen a picture of an ancient artifact which plainly showed a god having one body and three heads. In an act of appeasment the church embraced the various gods, beliefs and customs of their heathen converts, making them part of her catechisms. The church’s only stipulation was that she would change the names and titles of their gods, beliefs and customs to those already used by the church. The new converts seemed not to mind the name and title changes as long as the church recognized their gods, beliefs and customs.  The following are a few examples of the church’s name and title switches: Tammuz the sun god became Jesus of Nazareth. Passover became Easter. The 7th day Sabbath became the 1st day sabbath, the three-headed god became Mary, Jesus and Joseph. As late as the 6th century some Catholic Churches were continuing to display images of a god with three heads. One such image was found in a monastery in Spain and is known as the Trinitarians of Madrid.

Trinitarian type gods have been worshiped for many centuries. For example, the ancient Babylonians, Assyrians and Siberians worshiped three-in-one gods of various visual configurations. Among the Babylonians the trinity was composed of a god, his spirit in the form of a female, and their divine son. The female was known as “the Mother of the Gods” in whom dwelt the “spirit of the gods.” History reveals that religious leaders among the ancient Persians and Syrians, as well as many kings throughout Europe and Asia paid homage to their respective “queen of heaven, her god/husband and their divine son.  Some within Catholicism believe that Mary is in fact the Holy Spirit, that she was miraculously conceived and entered heaven without having died. There she serves as mediatrix between humans and Jesus. As such she is the one to whom they pray. Read the series titled Simon of Samaria: the Legacy. Key word–Simon.

Upon entering pagan areas Catholic missionaries were surprised to find that many of the people had been worshiping a trinity of some type for many generations. These societies and their trinitarian gods predate the establishment of the New Testament Church (31 A.D.) and the Catholic Church (33 A.D.) by hundreds of years. Historical and archeological evidence reveals that heathen people were worshiping three-personed gods at least 1200 years before the time of Christ.

Eventually a group of people calling themselves “Protestants” (protesters) left the Catholic Church. Being ignorant of the origin of much of their religion, they took with them many of the mother church’s heathen gods, practices and beliefs. The Introduction to this website lists a number of them. As each passing generation came to “know” that what they were being taught was “Bible truth,” church people did not feel the need to verify those “truths,” one of which was the existence of a “trinity. This refusal to study God’s Word in search of His Truth (Jn. 17:17) has produced the two-headed, multi-culted religious monster known today as “the Catholic/Protestant church.” L.J.
