The Real Elvis (cont. 1)

According to those within professing Christendom, when it comes to sin on their part, the Lord refuses to face reality, having deliberately blinded Himself to it. From pulpit and podium we are told that He is anxiously awaiting our next confession of sin so that He can press His delete button and make it all go away. One false prophetess took it a step further by announcing to a national t.v. audience that GOD FORGIVES CHRISTIANS’ INEVITABLE SINS EVEN BEFORE THEY COMMIT THEM. Her local congregation agreed wholeheartedly. I’m sure her t.v. audience concurred. This so-called “minister of righteousness” (2 Cor. 11:13-15) has few peers when it comes to dispensing God’s grace. Given her sales pitch, I would guess that her ministry date-book is filled.

As a general rule I avoid t.v. and radio preachers because, having spent some 50 years in “the church,” I’ve heard THE sermon many, many times. But occasionally God prompts me to run the t.v. channels or to listen to a radio program without explaining why. Having had this happen a number of times over the years I have found that He does this to remind me of how far into apostasy the Institutional Church has descended, and how important it is that church people hear His Truth in these last days. On one occasion my wife had been listening to the car radio (I do not) the last time she drove it. When I started the engine the radio was on so that I “just happened” to hear a radio preacher say about people who repeatedly sin, “They just need to repent.” No, they need to stop sinning (Heb. 6:1). Perhaps the “need to repent” false prophet and the “pre-sin forgiveness” false prophetess should join ministries. Elvis would have loved such a marriage made in church heaven.

According to those who acknowledged only the daytime Elvis, his numerous nocturnal incidences of naughtiness amounted to nothing more than tiny speed bumps on his expressway to heaven. One authority on all things religious went so far as to declare that “the king” is now directing God’s heavenly choir. How did this Satanic mind-set develop? What made him and his Catholic and Protestant cohorts believe that God summarily overlooks their repeated sins? What makes church people believe that, following a few head-bowed, eyes-closed words or a half-dozen hail Mary, bead-rubbing episodes clears them and makes them ready to “Go and sin some more?” BUT THEY DO. Having just returned from mass, a Catholic friend of my daughter voiced this perfectly when she said: “Well, I’m set for another week.” A Protestant friend told me that he saved up his sins over time and dumped them on Jesus en masse.  I assume that God’s sin-dump is open on Sunday mornings. Like his Catholic counterpart, after unloading his sins on the Lord my friend is ready to engage in sin business as usual. Again, from whence came this theology to Elvis Presley? Answer: From the same theological fount from which the whole of professing Christendom drinks–Satan. Through his publically-acknowledged sexcapades, Elvis Presley exposed the  heart-set of Catholicism/Protestantism when it comes to sin in general. So let us return to him.

Early on in his life, Elvis, like everyone else who “gets saved,” became the victim of a spiritual disease injected into him by his church. This viral infection caused him to “know” that, due to his religiosity, his repeated, inevitable sins (all of them Adam’s fault) would not be held against him. He was, after all, “born again” and walking in “victory.” “Victory” to church people does not mean victory over Satan– meaning the eradication of sin that is necessary for salvation (Rev. 3:21). Rather it means to be able to sin and get away with it. To Elvis and his billions of religious cohorts, the wages of sin is not death as God declared in Romans 6:23. To the church the wages of sin is eternal life as assured by Satan in Genesis 3:4.

This universal theological principle was graphically brought out in a documentary I “just happened” to see at a friend’s house some time ago. In this program Elvis’ theology was placed on public display as he told some friends about the sexual encounter he had been involved in the previous night. After thoroughly impressing his audience, “E” looked directly into the camera and said, “What a friend we have in Jesus.” “The King of Rock and Roll” then ended his heresy with a, “He’s got it covered,” laugh. Question: What made him (and the rest of professing Christendom) believe that he could sin and get away with it? Answer: Catholic and Protestant theology. To be continued.
