For over 1700 years there has been within professing Christendom a controversy involving the two covenants–one old, one new–that God made with those who are called by His name. The Old Covenant, we are told by the Scriptures, was God the Father’s written arrangement with the Children of Israel (Jacob). The New Covenant, we are told by the church, was God the Son’s arrangement with Gentiles (all non-Israelites). See The God Of The Old Testament. How do we know if those theological precepts are fact or fiction? Let us “Study to show (our)yourself approved of God” (2 Tim. 2:15) and “Prove all things” (1 Thes. 5:21) concerning spiritual matters. What do we study and by what do we prove all things relative to God’s will and way? His Holy Bible–the ONLY Standard by which all things spiritual are determined and judged by His saints.
With whom did God make the New Covenant? As is the case concerning all thing of importance in spiritual matters, the Lord provides His Truth (Jn. 17:17) for those who have the will to study to find it. Those who do so are Truth-hungry searchers to whom He can “teach knowledge and make to understand doctrine. These are they who are “weaned from the milk and drawn from the breast,” who study His Word “precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little” (Isa. 28:9-13). See The Bible–God’s Instrument Of Instruction. These are God’s true saints who diligently study, believe and obey His Word. Operating under the assumption that readers of this website and viewers of my YouTube site (proveallthingsofgod) are interested in God’s Truth, I will use His Words to answer the ultimate, and most controversial question: WITH WHOM DID GOD MAKE THE NEW COVENANT?
He tells us. We read in Jeremiah 31:31-34 where He told rebellious Israel that in the last days He would bring them back to Himself by making “… a New Covenant with the House of Judah–the tribes of Judah, Benjamin and Levi, called “Jews”–and with the House of Israel–all the other tribes. The two “houses” were (and still are) the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob whom He had brought out of Egyptian slavery. These are His chosen people who, having been set free after 400 years, had then broken the covenant (Law) He had made with them on Mt. Sinai (the Ten Commandments-Exodus. 20:1-17/Deuteronomy 5:1-22). Their refusal to obey His Law would later cause Him to divorce them (Jer. 3:6-11) and scatter them throughout the world (Eze. 4:13;12:15) where the vast majority of them live until this day as Gentiles, totally ignorant of their Israelite heritage. This being the case, the ultimate question with which Satan has blinded the hearts of church people for generations is: Having divorced both houses of Israel, did God reject the Children of Israel forever? Satan has deceived the whole of professing Christendom into saying “Yes,” that God not only rejected Israel permanently, but then replaced them with Gentiles. The theory summarizing this belief is known as “Replacement Theology.” God, on the other hand, refutes the theory, Romans 11:1 being the most direct: “Has God (permanently) cast away His people? GOD FORBID.” God forbids us to even speak of such heresy. See White Fields and The God Of The Old Testament. To be continued. L.J.
