THE Gospel, THE Faith: Two Titles–One Entity (Pt. 2)

In Romans 1:12-14 the Apostle Paul states that he had for some time desired to visit the Rome church where he knew that there were some who shared THE FAITH with him. He states that he wanted to do so in the hope that he could “have some fruit” among others in the church. By “having some fruit among them” he meant that he might be able to convince other Gentiles in the church to embrace THE ONE AND ONLY FAITH and lead some of them to the Lord. This was the goal of all of the apostles who knew that many, if not most of the people in the various churches to whom they wrote and preached to were CINOS–Christian In Name Only. Nothing has changed.

In verse 15 he reveals that he would try to persuade the others by preaching THE GOSPEL to them. This reveals that THE GOSPEL AND THE FAITH ARE INSEPARABLE–FORMING ONE SINGULAR, NECESSARY ENTITY. THE GOSPEL is the Word of God. THE FAITH comes by hearing the WORD (GOSPEL) of God. THE GOSPEL IS THE FOUNDATION UPON WHICH FAITH IS BUILT. Simply stated: FAITH IS TAKING GOD AT HIS WORD, which includes the Ten Commandment Law of God, which includes commandment #4–the commandment that 2.5 billion church people break every Saturday and Sunday.

James 2:10 reminds us that to break one of the commandments is to break the entire Law, making one guilty of INIQUITY–LAWLESSNESS. Read Matthew 7:21-23 to learn what Jesus said about iniquity among those who call Him their Lord but refuse to obey His commands. HE TELLS US THAT ON JUDGMENT DAY THEY WILL CALL HIM THEIR LORD, TO WHICH HE WILL DECLARE THAT HE NEVER KNEW THEM (Rom. 10:17/ Mat. 15:6-9). Their spiritual “houses” are built on sand. And when trouble arises their houses will be destroyed (vss 24-27). A house and its foundation have a special union. One is useless without the other.

In verse 16 Paul makes another extremely important, but universally rejected statement concerning the Gospel. There he writes that THE GOSPEL IS THE POWER OF GOD THAT, IF OBEYED, LEADS US TO SALVATION. Believers are eligible to make that journey IF they obey the Gospel, for IN THE GOSPEL WE FIND THE POWER OF GOD REVEALED. AS WE BELIEVE AND OBEY IT WE GROW IN FAITH UNTIL WE COME TO: “THE MEASURE OF THE STATURE OF THE FULLNESS OF CHRIST” (Eph. 4:13). Those who endure in that justified/righteous state will be saved upon the arrival of Jesus Christ (Mat. 10:22; 22:14). The JUST(IFIED) LIVE BY FAITH BASED ON THE WORD/GOSPEL/TRUTH/LAW OF GOD (vs 17)

In verse 18 Paul warns those in the church who do not believe and obey the Gospel/Law of God that the wrath of God will fall on them because they “hold the Truth (God’s Word–Jn. 17:17) of God in unrighteousness” by not obeying it. Here he is referring to those billions who claim to be “sinners saved by grace.” God’s grace does not extend to those who know the Truth of God but refuse to believe and obey it. All of the repentance one can proclaim will not save the one whom JESUS CHRIST HAS NEVER, DOES NOT AND WILL NEVER KNOW. Why does He not know them? Because they reject His Law,

Verse 18 is especially condemning for those who dismiss any part of God’s Word as not being relevant for today. Many have that attitude toward the Old Testament. Recall that the Apostle Peter said that “men of OLD spoke (and wrote) as they were moved by God’s Holy Spirit” (2 Pet. 1:21)–the same Spirit that moved His apostles during the early days of the church and still does today. Paul tells us in verse 18 that the Lord commands His people to be GODLY AND RIGHTEOUS, that those who do not obey His Truth (Word) are ungodly and unrighteous.

Being a Catholic or Protestant is not the unforgiveable sin. But in order to get right with God and stay right, one must obey His command found in Second Corinthians 6:14-7:1. Though “that unclean thing” (the counterfeit church) is “Christian” in a theoretical sense, most of her parishioners are not part of the Lord’s “little flock,” his “remnant” of “holy,” “priestly,” “peculiar” people. As He says in 7:1, in order to become one of His children one must separate oneself from the worldly part of His church and be sanctified (spiritually and physically “set apart” for holy use). One must join God’s righteous church (“called out ones”) who believe His Words and obey them.

This act will most likely cause 99% of one’s church friends and possibly one’s family to reject him/her on the spiritual level. For this reason Jesus said that “where two or three come together in His name, He will be there among them.” He meant that literally. Only those few will rise to meet Christ and His angels in the clouds upon His return. Only they will descend with Him to the Mount of Olives and go with Him into Jerusalem where He will establish the Kingdom of God from whence He and they will rule, first the earth for 1000 years, then the entire universe forever.
