The Coronavirus Pandemic: The Cause Is The Cure (Pt. 1) n the United States the proverbial “man on the street” is wondering what is happening to his nation. People are dying by the thousands from an unseen enemy. “Mother nature” is ravaging the Upper Midwest with ice and the Deep south with tornadoes. While  farmers are plowing up crops in the Southeast, homeless people are scouring dumpsters in the Northwest. While homes are being blown away on the plains, to the southwest others are living in cardboard boxes. While legal citizens line up at food banks, thousands of illegals are trying to join them. The question on the lips of “man sheltering in place” is, “Why is this happening to the greatest, most advanced, most powerful nation on earth?” Why? is the question on the nation’s mind.

Though America’s lips are quick with THE question, her ears are not ready for THE answer. In fact, when THE answer is spoken or written, she summarily rejects it. As a result, death, destruction and misery have become her “new normal.” This has happened many times before, and if the Messiah delays His coming, it will happen again, which is one part of THE answer to THE question Americans do not want to hear. The other part involves THE cause of THE problem, as well as all past problems and future problems. THE Lord has assigned me the task of providing THE answer to THE question.

Many years ago there was a newspaper comic strip which featured a group of lovable animals who were known to philosophize about the state of the nation’s political, social and economic condition. While discussing the cause of a particular problem the main character–a raccoon named Pogo–spoke a sobering truth. He said: “We have met the enemy, and he is us.” Without mentioning the Holy Bible or its Author, the cartoonist wrote one of the most profound truths ever read or heard. As I wrote in my previous article, when searching for a reason for our troubles, we must look in the mirror. We pack our own parachute; how we pack it determines how we land. In a time when “truth” comes from a hand-held device, mankind is looking for someone or something to blame when things go awry. Things have definitely gone awry. My job is to explain why.

The philosopher Rene Descartes once wrote: “In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” The United States has been living in a time of spiritual deceit for most of her existance. The Lord has assigned a tiny group of Truth tellers the task of being spiritual revolutionaries.  In keeping with our assignment, we will continue to speak and write God’s Truth to a nation and a world that reject it. The Truth, Jesus said, is God’s Word (Jn. 17:17). The enemy of that Word, Pogo reminds us, “is us.”

If words ever described a nation, Pogo’s sage-like utterance describes my beloved homeland–the God-founded, God-blessed United States  of America–which continues to live in the evil, Satan-worshiping, self-serving abyss into which she flung herself generations ago. America is the sow that wallows in her own mire. She is the dog that dines on its own vomit (Prov. 26:11). Her recent excitement over an annual event is indicative of why she has become the world’s moral toilet–the sewer in which the rest of the world swims. For several weeks the nation anxiously awaited the day when she could pay homage to her primary heathen deities: the Goddess of Fertility whom she calls Easter, and Tammuz, Easter’s  miraculously conceived, miraculously resurrected son whom the church calls Jesus. Satan conveniently arranged it so that the wonderous day would always fall on Sunday–the day sun worshipers paid homage to their god. Modern day sun worshipers continue the tradition by holding “sunrise services” on Easter Sunday. The rising of the sun in the east symbolizes the rise of Tammuz from the tomb and his ascension into heaven where he now serves as the sun god. See Ezekiel 8. Note God’s reaction to the sunrise service in verse 18. America has many gods and holidays on which to venerate those gods. Satan’s religious organizations orchestrate those holidays. Easter, Christmas, Valentines Day and Halloween enable America’s church people to honor their primary gods on an annual basis. Americans venerate their other gods–athletes and entertainers–every other day of the year. They carry their number one god in their pockets with his name festooned on it.
