When Thomas Jefferson referred to the “separation of church and state” in a letter to a friend he was referring to the fact that the United States must not establish a state religion to which all must pledge allegiance. The early arrivals to the New World had left Europe in order to escape such a state-religion situation. The words: “separation of church and state” do not appear in the United States Constitution. Nor are they found in any other official documents of U.S. statehood. In spite of this:
In 1947 the U.S. Supreme Court declared that religion has no place in the public domain, particularly in the public schools. The court emphasized that students could not be forced to pray to the Biblical God.
In 1962 the court declared that voluntary prayer to the Biblical God was unconstitutional in public schools. To reach this conclusion the court conducted a nationwide poll to determine if there was a sufficient number of atheists to warrant such a ruling. The court found that three percent of the U.S. population identified themselves as atheists. Ignoring the other 97 percent, the court found sufficient cause to declare prayer of any kind in public schools unconstitutional.
In 1963 the court declared that the reading of the Bible in public schools was unconstitutional.
In 1967 a U.S. Federal Court ruled that not only was the word “God” not to appear on any printed surface in a public school, but that no statement could appear in writing that a student might BELIEVE referred to God.
In 1980 the court declared that the Ten Commandments could not appear anywhere on public school grounds. The explanation: “If the posted copies of the Ten Commandments are to have any effect at all, it will be to induce school children to read, meditate upon, perhaps to venerate and obey the commandments …. This is not a permissible state objective.”
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th district which encompasses nine states and 59,000,000 people declared unconstitutional the utterance of the words: “under God” in the pledge of allegiance. However, that same court declared constitutional a mandate issued by a school district that REQUIRED all students to submit to a three-week indoctrination into the Islamic faith. During that time students were forced to pretend to be Muslims, wear Muslim garb, pray to Allah, read the Koran, take Muslim names and participate in Muslim Jihad (war) games.
Since the 1960’s various U.S Courts have upheld the view that such belief systems as Atheism, Wiccan, Secular Humanism, Ethical Culture, Scientology, Universalist Unitarianism, Witchcraft and various Middle Eastern religions are in fact legitimate religions and are therefore afforded all rights, privileges and freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment. All are allowed to operate in full view on public grounds. Proponents are are allowed to display their symbols, read their books, pray to their gods, or declare that there is no god. Only one religion is not afforded such freedoms and is in fact prohibited from exercising those freedoms under threat of law. That religion–Christianity.
What did each of the above-mentioned U.S. courts have in common? They all contained liberal majorities placed there by liberal politicians. We can look for more of the same in the future as our newly elected ultra-liberal congress strives to remove God from the lives of our young people by “educating” Him out of their minds and “textbooking” His Word into irrelevance.
Thanks to liberal politicians and their supporters, if a student is caught on his knees in a public school he had better be shooting craps or shooting up, for if he is suspected of praying he is in trouble, unless, that is, he is praying to one or more of the politically correct gods.
While reflecting on the past and looking toward the future, I find myself concurring with Thomas Jefferson and George Mason respectively: “I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just–that His justice cannot sleep forever.” “As nations cannot be rewarded or punished in the next world, they must be in this (world). By an inevitable chain of causes and effects, Providence punishes national sins by sending national calamities.” Did someone say: “Joebama Biden?” “COVID-19?” “military defeat in Afghanistan?” “America rejected by former allies?” “inflation?” “high unemployment?” “record homelessness?” “national murder rate at an all-time high?” “record mob violence?” “city business districts aflame?” “invasion of illegals?” “drug smuggling at an all-time high?” “Texas freezes while Idaho roasts?” “West Coast burns while East Coast floods?”…. Is it just a coincidence that as of October 8, 2021, 18 billion dollar disasters have occurred in the United States causing 538 deaths and $108 billion in damages? Why are the above-listed truths taking place in the United States of America? God is angry and “speaking” loudly and clearly. Satan-worshiping America is not listening. L.J.
