According to Secret Christian theology, how a person lives is irrelevant; all that matters is what he/she thinks. And in that “We don’t know what is in a person’s mind,” we can choose to believe that the person in question is right with God, if we want him/her to be. This is typical liberal reasoning in which reality is whatever one wants it to be. A recent episode in Texas highlights this point. A church in Dallas decided that allowing homosexuals to join the congregation, marrying them, welcoming them into church leadership positions, etc. was the right thing to do. When questioned as to why he thought this was a good idea in spite of God’s condemnation of the entire idea, the church’s pastor said, “God is doing something beautiful here (in that church). I’m going to ERR on the side of love and grace.” Notice that He admitted that the church was disobeying God (“err”). He also noted that the church was “stepping outside the Bible” to institute its new membership rules. The pastor of another church, this one in Austin, has told homosexuals to “live out your faith as your full selves.” This church also professes that one does not need to accept Jesus Christ as one’s Savior in order to get to heaven. A world-famous evangelist from the same denomination said publically that “There will be many people in heaven who have never heard of Jesus Christ.” THIS IS STANDARD DOCTRINAL TEACHING IN MANY “BIBLE BELIEVING” CHURCHES. This form of liberalism will soon infect even the most conservative of religious groups as all will kneel before the alter of Religious Correctness in order to maintain a good standing within the “Christian community.” Let us return to the religious mind game.
After the shock wore off I realized that the Institutional Church has been practicing a form of this religiosity for some 1700 years. The theology goes something like this: To be saved, born again, etc. one need only believe and obey the doctrines of the denomination, faith, congregation, etc. with which one is affiliated, whose beliefs, traditions, etc. are “right” though they are condemned by God in His Word. While believing and practicing the heathen doctrines, traditions, etc. of one’s church (see the Prologue to this website), one is assumed to be a Christian by others who are doing the same thing. In sum: One can believe and obey Catholic/Protestant policies with all of its innate paganism and remain in God’s will as long as he/she thinks about being obedient to Him. But care must be taken in this process. One must think about obeying God only in a general sense, being careful to avoid focusing on specific passages of Scripture which inevitably causes problems in that it reveals how the reader is living in rebellion against God. For example, “I’m going to obey God” (general statement) gets rather sticky when one consults specific statements in His Word. A general statement believed throughout professing Christendom–“The Law was nailed to the cross”–is revealed to be a Satanic lie by such specific statements as “To transgress the Law is sin, for sin is the transgression of the Law” (1 Jn. 3:4), “By the Law is the knowledge of sin” (Rom. 3:20), “The Law is holy, just and good” (Rom. 7:12) along many other such Scriptures. Note that these Scriptures are found in the New Testament. See God’s Royal Law.
To walk the thought-only path one need not conduct one’s life (“walk”–1 Jn. 2:3-6) in a specific Godly fashion, one need only think about pleasing God generally. Relative to this theology, my mind returns to Eden. I can almost hear the Serpent hiss: “You can eat of the forbidden tree and still have eternal life (“You shall not surely die”=live forever). You need only think about pleasing God while disobeying Him. Eat, enjoy yourselves. After all, it’s the thought that counts.” To be continued. L.J.
