Second Peter
Chapter three of the Apostle Peter’s second letter to the Israelite Christians concerns the future their spiritual descendants would face in the final days of this present world.
Verses one and two: Here Peter reminds the church (then and now) that the one and only source of all that is known about the Godhead is what God has spoken and written through His prophets and apostles. In the last sentence of verse 2 Peter sets the chronological agenda for salvation based on that spoken and written Word. Here we find that “Lord” must come before “Savior.” In order for Jesus to be one’s Savior in the next life He must be one’s Lord in this life. This Truth is summarily rejected by the masses of professing Christendom. While the word “Savior” is used repeatedly by parishioners, the word “Lord” is rarely heard. The idea of the Godhead (Father and Son) having total control over their lives (through the Holy Spirit) is anathema to the 2,000,000,000+ church members scattered throughout the world. Churchman shouts out to that world loudly, proudly and often that he is in charge of all things spiritual. Satan smiles as his puppets dance at the end of his strings. Question: Where did this problem begin? Answer: It began where all sin begins–in the mind/heart of man (Jam. 1:15).
Human beings speak, write and act on what they think about. In this way people become what they think about. In the physical world we have a saying, “We are (become) what we eat,” which is true. Equally true is the fact that in the spiritual world we are (become) what we think about. The Lord voices this Truth in Proverbs 23:7: “As a man thinks in his heart, so he is.” Unfortunately, Jesus Christ is not what church people think about except at meal time, bedtime, Sunday morning between 10 and 12 and when trouble arrives.
Concerning the Word of God which He provides for all of mankind in written form in hundreds of languages, let us remember that it is through His Holy Bible that man knows everything he knows about the Godhead. God’s Word (not man’s word) is Truth (Jn. 17:17). Only God determines spiritual Truth. When man edits (changes, takes from or adds to) that Word it becomes man’s word. In declaring his new and improved “truth,” man declares himself god. The Catholic whore church, having mastered the art of Scripture mutilation, has handed that skill down to her Protestant harlot daughters (Rev. 17:1-5). Once one accepts this fact one understands why the Lord departed from so-called Christianity long ago, leaving Satan and his surrogates in charge. This leads us to the next set of facts.
Verses three and four: Note that Peter warns the people: “Knowing this FIRST OF ALL, that there shall come scoffers in the last days who will walk in their own lusts.” The word “lust” refers to anything anyone seeks passionately. Question: Why would a church person scoff at God’s Word written by God’s holy prophets and apostles? Answer: Scoffers plant a seed of doubt in the hearts of their listeners in order to draw them away from the Lord and to themselves. In other words, they lust for a following. As stated before, denominations came into being when Truth-rejecting men shed doubt on God’s Spirit-inspired Word (2 Tim. 3:16) in order to gain a following. Note that scoffery is always followed by the offering of a better, more enlightened, more intellectual way. The standard for this phenomenon is found in the Serpent’s manipulation of Adam and Eve in Eden. His continued success unquestioned. L.J.
