In most cases Satan’s false gospel comes from inside his church buildings, production studios, etc. But occasionally we hear it coming from another part of his domain–the media world. A few days ago I was on my computer searching for something that would enlighten me when I ran across a world-renown t.v. personality who was interviewing a world-renown religious huckster who had taken time away from his “Here’s what you can get from god” ministry to discuss the plight of the modern church. Note: I do not use the names of living people. This dynamic “Christian” duo  was lamenting the fact that the God presented by Bible-centered ministers is not the true god. It seems that the Biblical God–Whose Word is Truth (Jn. 17:17)–is far too demanding and dictatorial. The God we preach, these Bible scholars opined, has far too many requirements for attaining eternal life. The true god is totally user-friendly, requiring nothing more than belief in Him. It seems that God is so pleased that the masses recognize His existence that He dispensed salvation to them like candy to children. All that their god requires is that one complete a prescribed ritual in order to receive the ultimate “participation trophy”–instant salvation. Once the trophy had been awarded, then other goodies–$, things and stuff–would be forthcoming.

It soon became obvious that the hostess has advanced far beyond the rest of us in that she “knows” that the God of the Scriptures is in fact not a “he,” but rather a “she.” Another of her spiritual breakthroughs involves the “fact” that it does not matter which god one worships and serves–all gods are in fact one in the same. Whether one worships the Biblical God, Allah, fire or the sun is irrelevant–we are all bowing to the same universal god. The form one’s god takes–a serpent, a rock formation, an animal, etc.–is irrelevant. Her constantly smiling, nodding, Bible-carrying, cross-wearing guest did not disagree with her. According to the interviewer, all religious people world-wide worship the same god, only in different ways. I immediately imagined a female god telling one group to love their enemies and do good for them while telling another group to torture and kill their enemies for public entertainment. AND BOTH GROUPS ARE OBEYING THE SAME GOD.

In a previous interview this self-proclaimed bastion of spiritual truth informed her global audience that not only did they all worship the same god, but that they were all headed for the same place. Only the paths they take are different. Apparently Jesus was lying when He said that He was the only way to enter paradise, that He was the way, the truth and the life and that no man came to the Father except through Him.

Another irony is the fact that 99% of the “churches” on earth would welcome both of these spiritual giants into their presence and would allow them to speak from their pulpits. Such is the spiritual condition of professing Christendom, which brings us back to Romans 6:23. In the following postings we will study this most important verse, using it as an example of hundreds of Scriptures that are routinely edited so as to make them say what the people want to hear. L.J.
