Does the Almighty care about the physical, mental and emotional health of His saints? He says so in John 10:10 and 3 John 2 where He recorded His will concerning this very important aspect of mankind’s life: “… I (have) come that you might have life, and have it more abundantly.” “Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health ….” With these Words in mind, one has to wonder why so many people, including those who call themselves God’s people, are in such poor physical, mental or emotional condition and in need of some type(s) of medical attention. Mankind’s generally poor health has made the medical profession a multi-billion dollar industry. In many urban locations one can find entire neighborhoods dedicated to helping people stay alive and able to function on some level by providing them with drugs, surgical operations, mental and emotional support, etc. The numbers are staggering. Parking lots around medical facilities are always full, as are doctors’ appointment books. It is not unusual to wait for days, or even weeks to see a physician or mental health provider. It is not unusual for every member in a family to “have a doctor.” “Who is your doctor” is a question often asked when people gather together. Without exception, when I am asked this question and I answer that I do not have one, the questioner looks at me as if I am lying. Doesn’t everyone have a personal doctor who keeps them up and going? No, but the vast majority do.
Which begs the question: Why are waiting rooms consistently full when the majority of those awaiting care claim to be Christians whose God has shown them how to attain and retain good health in the Bibles they all own? It is obvious that their physical, mental and emotional conditions do not match what God declares is His will for His people. Could it be that people take their health for granted and do not consider what the Biblical God says about it? In this series we will go in depth into God’s Word in order to find out exactly what He tells the world’s people about their health and why they are either in good health or bad health. What He says might surprise you. L.J.
