In this final posting on the Lord’s Passover I will prove to Easter observers that His people continue to observe His Passover just as did His New Covenant Church.
In Matthew 26:5 we find the chief priests and the scribes making plans to kill Jesus, but “not on the FEAST DAY, lest there be an uproar among the people.” They then rushed His death through in order to have Him killed the day BEFORE the FEAST. In order to show that the feast day was the day after the Passover festival (the time of the “Last Supper”), and that it was a “high day” Sabbath (Jn. 19:31)–the day following Jesus’ crucifixion–notice John 13:29: “For some of them thought, because Judas had the ($) bag, that Jesus had said to him, ‘Buy those things that we have need of against (for) the FEAST.'” This proves that the feast was the following day. Notice what Paul tells the Corinthian church to do relative to the feast: “For even Christ our Passover was sacrificed for us, THEREFORE LET US KEEP THE FEAST” (1 Cor. 5:7,8). This is the feast consumed on the High Day Sabbath spoken of in John 19:31. Following this comes the seven Days of Unleavened Bread when nothing containing leaven–symbolic of sin–can be consumed. Proof that the early church continued to keep these days is found in Acts 20:6: “We sailed away from Philippi AFTER THE DAYS OF UNLEAVENED BREAD.” Paul and his companions had observed the feast and the Days of Unleavened Bread in Philippi. Then there is Acts 12:3,4 which states: “Then were the days of unleavened bread.” Why did John, Luke and Paul mention the Passover Feast and the Days of Unleavened Bread if they were not being observed by the church during the time of their ministries? And why did Roman Emperor Constantine have to pass a law in 325 A.D. to force “the church” to observe Easter instead of Passover? We know by this that for the first 325 years professing Christendom observed Passover. A few–God’s true church–never stopped.
