The Biblical rule of thumb relative to right and wrong is that whomsoever one relies on for Truth is one’s god–the deity one depends on for salvation. To look to any source other than the Biblical God is idolatry–having another god before Him. When a church group concocts spiritual truth by committee consensus, that group is practicing idolatry in that the people are placing another god (themselves) before the Biblical God. In Exodus chapter 20 we find that the Old Testament Lord, Who would later come to earth as Jesus of Nazareth, first of all identified Himself as “… the Lord your God Who has brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.” Having established His identity, He then gave them their first command: “You shall have no other gods before Me” (vss 2,3). As the next two verses revealed, “gods” included any image made by hand that would be used in worship of Him (cross, fish, steeple, statue, etc. symbols).
The application of verse 3 in the present context involves seeking spiritual truth from any other source than the Lord Himself. The church routinely commits this sin when she rejects God’s gospel as written and embraces a perverted gospel as her source of right and wrong (Gal. 1:6-9). That professing Christendom does this as a matter of course is proven time and again by this website. As I stated, I have been chosen by God to expose the wickedness and darkness in which Catholicism/Protestantism exists. Her heathen doctrines and practices are so dark that the Lord calls them not merely darkness, but “great darkness” (Mat. 6:23) because they are put forth as His light. Such is the plight of the church as she formulates truth by groupthink. Which is acceptable if the group agrees that the Bible is the only legitimate source of real spiritual Truth. The problem is, the church does not look to God’s Truth, but rather relies on Selective Truth.
The church’s reliance on Selective Truth was brought to light as the result of an episode I shared with proveallthingsofgod readers some time back. It bears repeating due to the current subject. I had written a point-by-point article in the local newspaper which revealed how the Institutional Church has rejected God’s Word and embraced Satan’s word relative to many of her foundational doctrines and customs. I chose ten or so and showed the readers that God counted all of them as abominations in that they are of Babylonian origin. As was later reported to me, a local pastor declared that everything I had written in the article was in fact true. However, he was quick to add, what I had proven to be God’s Truth was not what his denomination preached and taught. Having been born into and raised in that denomination, I knew that it, along with all other self-professed “Christian” churches, faiths, etc. determine Scriptural Truth by committee agreement, not by the sure Word of God. They “compare themselves among themselves” as did the Jews in Acts 28:23-29.
In the sociological world this practice is referred to as the “pooling of ignorance.” The term fits the religious situation perfectly. Would it not be better to consult God’s Word and go with what He tells us? For those seeking Truth from the only provider of Truth, it would. However, churchman does not seek God’s Truth. T0 him, truth is whatever will keep the pews and coffers full. To be continued. L.J.
