Natural Disasters, Sickness, Poverty: God’s Curses Or Normal Life?

“… a curse without a cause will not happen” (Prov. 26:2). This is the hardest spiritual law I ever had to learn. But once I came to grips with this most unbelieved and rejected Law of God I could look back on my life and see that for every effect their was in fact a cause, that for every whirlwind I had reaped, there had first been a wind that I had sown (Hos. 8:7). I came to realize that the correlation, whether positive or negative, worked perfectly without fail. I noticed that every time I sinned (which was often), God cursed me with sickness, “bad luck,” financial problems, etc. I also noticed that when I was obedient to Him blessings would come my way, at times in the form of miracles.

The Law of Obedience-results-in-blessings, disobedience-results-in-cursings was instituted in the Garden of Eden. God laid out His “Cause and Effect Law” to Adam and Eve in very simplistic terms–if they obeyed Him they would live forever; if they disobeyed Him and they would die. We all know the choice they made and the outcome. The wind they sowed resulted in the whirlwind they received. No doubt their first two sons were taught this lesson. Abel obeyed God’s Law and was called “righteous” (Mat. 23:35). Cain, on the other hand, disobeyed and was rejected by God. Notice that when the Lord’s sentence (curse) was pronounced, Cain did not ask God why He was punishing him. Instead, he complained that he was not able to bear the curse. Cain knew why he was being cursed.

In that sense Cain was more spiritually astute than modern day church people. Unlike him, today’s parishioner does not see the connection between his sins and the bad things (curses from God) that come his way. Sickness, accidents, wrong decisions, famine, floods, tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, fires, financial downfalls, destruction or theft of property, etc. are all caused by sin. We know this Law is in effect because God states it time and again in His Holy Bible. This Truth is a hard spiritual pill to swallow because religious man has been told that Adam’s sin gene was miraculously transferred into his spiritual dna. Therefore, he must sin. And because he has no choice but to sin, God has made allowances for his sins. God’s grace, parishioners are assured, gives them a license to sin. Because of this Satanic lie church people refer to themselves as “sinners saved by grace.” Being nothing more than the devil’s helpless puppets, surely God would not curse them for their sins. After all, the devil made them do it.

Having lived in such ignorance for many years, I understand why people who have experienced tragic material losses through fires, flooding, tornados, hurricanes, etc. thank God for sparing their physical lives, etc. while refusing to acknowledge the cause of the disaster that has torn their lives apart. Many profess that God is testing their faith. No. He is cursing them because of their lack of faith. Faith is taking Him at His Word and obeying it. Sin is the opposite of faith.

Deuteronomy 28 and Leviticus 26 explain God’s Cause and Effect Law in both the positive and negative sense. Nowhere in the Bible does He say that the above-mentioned curses will come on those who believe and obey Him. Rather, He promises to bless those who obey Him and to curse those who do not. Satan has blinded the eyes of church people so that they cannot see this Truth (Rev. 12:9).

Another Biblical Truth that Satan has kept his people from believing concerns persecution. God guarantees that severe persecution will come upon those who live in obedience to His Word. See Persecution. He promises that such ill treatment will come from the Institutional Church. Recall that it was the Jews, specifically those in high religious circles, that killed Jesus and the apostles. Recall that it was the Catholic hierarchy who arranged the martyrdom of over 50,000,000 people during the Inquisition and hundreds of thousands during the Crusades. The devil has convinced Catholics and Protestants that they must reject those who take God at His Word and obey It. For this reason the Lord said that there would be few of such believers, whom He calls His Very Elect (Mat. 7:13,14/ Mat. 24:24).

One day soon the Almighty will instigate the Great Tribulation in which Satan will be allowed to curse the world’s people for 2 1/2 years. Then will come the year-long Day of the Lord in which God Himself will curse sinning mankind. Just before the Tribulation begins He will take His true church to “her place,” a location where they will be protected from the horror that will destroy 2/3 of the world’s population (Rev. 12:14). May we all be part of God’s “little flock,” His “remnant” who will be standing when the smoke clears. L.J.
