In Roman mythology the goddess of sex, beauty, enticement, seduction and persuasive female charm–Venus (Eng.–“Easter”)–had a son named Cupid (Rom.–“desire”/ Gk.–“eros”). Cupid supposedly accompanied his mother during the festival of Lupercalia where sexual license and decadence reigned. He reportedly used his bow to shoot arrows into the hearts of his victims in order to ignite love between males and females. Cupid was depicted as a chubby little tyke holding a bow and arrows. In the 18th century English historian Edward Gibbon wrote that the vestiges of heathenism could still be found within the celebration of the Lupercalia, whose origins were established before the foundation of the city of Rome. In His epic historical work entitled The Two Babylons, Alexander Hislop noted that the heart came to be recognized as the symbol of the Child and the Great Mother. After being embraced by the Catholic Church, the couple came to be known as Madonna and Child, a concept the church borrowed from the mystery religion of Babylon. Hislop noted that the divine infant was frequently shown with a heart in one of his hands, thus gaining the title “God of the heart.” Legend surrounding Valentine’s Day holds that the mother, upon seeing her newborn son, lusted for him and later married him. Is it any wonder that Cupid’s name means “desire?”
The sordid sex-saturated festival called St. Valentine’s Day represents everything that God condemns. Yet children throughout the so-called Christian World annually celebrate the holiday. Ignoring God’s command to abstain from even the appearance of evil, supposedly Christian parents buy the prescribed candy and cards for their innocent children and send them off to school, and in some cases, to church where they pay homage to the goddess of desire and her son whose arrows send thoughts of love into the hearts of those who send and those who receive the gifts. This in spite of the Lord’s command that His people not do for Him what the heathen do for their gods. Which is exactly what the Sunday Sabbath, Valentine’s Day, Easter and Christmas are all about. But all is supposedly well, what with everyone being “saved.” Jesus summed up His and His Father’s attitude toward those who practice such Satanic customs: “In vain do they worship Me ….” Like the five foolish virgins (false Christians), they will show up at the marriage feast fully convinced that they will be allowed to attend the celebration, only to be told, “I know you not.”
On February 14th billions of self-described Christians will send their children off to do the devil’s bidding. Having recently paid homage to him during the “Christmas Season,” they will enjoy the cards and candies, then begin to prepare to honor his mother–the Goddess of Desire, called Easter in the Western World. Billions within the heathen world will exalt her with colored eggs, chicks and rabbits–symbols of reproduction. As Satan orchestrates the earthly festivities, the God of the universe will be preparing another round of woes which He will pour out on the Counterfeit Church and the nations that house her. These curses will come in the form of heathen invasions, racial tensions, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, famines, mudslides, earthquakes, ice storms, volcanoes, etc. Religious man will wonder at what is happening as he asks his god (Satan) to make it all go away, all the while unaware that the God he believes he is praying to is the very One Who is afflicting him. Anyone who does not understand the power of the devil and the wrath of God does not believe God’s Word. L.J.
