Knowing The “Things Of God”: The Holy Spirit At Work (Pt. 1)

In the first few verses of the Book of Acts the writer (probably Luke) tells about how Jesus taught His apostles by word and example until He was taken up to the Father following His resurrection.  Then Luke writes: “after that (His resurrection) He (Jesus), THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT, commanded (taught) His apostles whom He had chosen (vs 2).  Luke then tells how Jesus returned from heaven to the Mount of Olives where, for 40 days, He taught them about the Kingdom of God–His Gospel of the Kingdom of God which was to be their Gospel (vs 3).  Note that following His 40 day seminar Jesus continued to speak to His apostles BY WAY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT and continues to do so today.  The Scriptures tell us that He continues to teach His true apostles in two ways: 1) by revelation of His will as presented in His Holy Bible and 2) by the revelation of things that are happening or will happen that are not presented in Scripture.  God shows His servants things that will take place that did not exist at the time the Bible writers were alive and therefore were not predicted.  The entire Book of Revelation, though written in past tense, foretells of things that would take place in the future.  Another example is  the Lord revealing to the Prophet Daniel the meaning of Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.  God told Daniel to record and “seal up” what he had seen and written for they concerned “… THE THINGS THAT WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE FUTURE”– “the time of the end” (Dan. 12:4).  People in those days would not have understood t.v., the internet, jet planes, nuclear bombs, etc.  God did, however, speak of some end-time happenings that would not be made known to His people until the “time of the end.”  As Paul said, men of old yearned to look into those things but could not.  Today, those those things with understand due to revelation by way of the Holy Spirit (1 Pet. 1:10-12).

Daniel admitted to the Lord that he did not understand what he was being shown.  He was told that it was not for him to understand, but that there would be those living during the latter days to whom the Lord would REVEAL the Truth about what he (Daniel) had seen and heard concerning Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.  Even the heathen king admitted that Daniel’s God was “a revealer of secrets” (Dan. 2:47).  Some of those secrets involve things happening today and things that will take place in the future which are seen in the Book of Revelation.

On a number occasions I have been the recipient of spiritual revelation from God through His Holy Spirit.  In every case, those things took place exactly as He had revealed them to me.  In some cases He has revealed what had taken place in the past or that was taking place at that time, things I had no way of knowing outside of divine revelation.  In some cases, the information was about people I did not know.  In one case the revelation concerned someone I had never met, but had talked with over the phone.  Other cases involved truths about people I had neither met nor talked to but, in the course of the revelations coming to pass, I would later meet.  When I asked them about what God had shown me, they admitted that the information was correct.  It is somewhat of a shock for people to see God work in that way.

God is no respecter of persons.  What He does for one He will do for another.  In the interest of full disclosure I will admit that in the past I have heard from God, failed to act on what He told me, and paid the price for doing so.  In one case my failure cost me a plot of land on which stood a house, a church building and a congregation.  That was a hard-learned lesson and the Lord did not let me forget it.  For months afterward I repeatedly heard spoken or saw in writing the words: “Unto whom much is given, much is required” (Lk. 12:48).  The message was clear: WHEN GOD SPEAKS, OBEY IMMEDIATELY.  The Almighty has given me much in the spiritual realm.  He requires much in return.  I have in previous postings written about people dying unexpectedly and from no known physical cause because they would not listen to what I told them.  In each case He revealed their deaths to me ahead of time.  Other examples are like the most recent revelation.

A few months ago the Lord began showing me visions of a friend of mine whom He has been dealing with through physical falls which rendered her unable to get up without help.  In some cases she would have to stay for hours until someone saw her and came to help.  Though I have warned her that she is in rebellion against God and have proven it with the Bible, FROM WHICH SHE PREACHES AND WHICH SHE QUOTES.  SHE ALSO CALLS HERSELF “THIS OLD SINNER SAVED BY GRACE.”  Because of her ultra-religiosity she is convinced that she is right with Him while doing the exact opposite of what He commands.  The vision He showed me concerned a future “fall” if she does not stop her rebellious activity, convert to Him and His way and walk accordingly.  In the vision she has fallen out her back door, broken several ribs and an arm.  She is unconscious and lying in a pool of blood.  Ironically, I will find her.  He told me to write what He had shown me and date it May 28, 2021.  I am to give it to her when she regains consciousness.  That will be her final warning.  The vision will be His final call to her.  Now let us turn to the focal passage relative to this series–1 Corinthians chapter 2.

First, let us examine verse 10 where we are told that God reveals previously unknown things to His true servants through His Holy Spirit so that they can know “yes, (even) the deep things of God.”  The passage that comes to mind relative to this Truth is Romans 11:33: “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God.  How UNSEARCHABLE are His judgments and His ways PAST FINDING OUT.”  We are reminded that “His ways are above our ways.”  Which is true.  The words “unsearchable” and “past finding out” mean that by using our own powers we cannot comprehend the things of the Lord.  They are far too spiritually deep for us to understand.  It is at this point that the vast majority within professing Christendom stop.  To go past the normal spiritual state of man and into the Lord’s spiritual realm requires death–death to self-interests and death to the things of the world in which we live.

For one to dwell in the spiritual realm in which God can reveal unknown, and seemingly unknowable things to the believer one must take to heart what Jesus said about those who are truly one with Him: “If any man come to Me who does not HATE (place on a secondary level) his father, mother, wife, children, as well as his spiritual brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple (follower).  And whosoever does not bear his cross (die to self) and come after (strictly obey) Me, cannot be My disciple” (Lk. 14:26,27).  Everything and everyone else in the oneness seeker must must be placed on a back burner.  If there is anyone or anything other than the Lord that we are not willing to give up, we are not worthy of Him and cannot be one with Him (Mat. 10:37).  Only those possessing this mind-set has the Lord abiding within them in the form of His Holy Spirit.  Without the Holy Spirit abiding within us we can receive no revelation.  Without revelation we cannot know “THE THINGS THAT ARE OF GOD” WHICH HE WANTS HIS PEOPLE TO KNOW.  L.J.
