Keepers Of The Brethren (cont. 8)

Both Biblical and secular history reveal that mankind did not come to God’s light, embrace it and walk in it in significant numbers. As God prophesied in Matthew 7:13,14, only a “few” searched diligently, “found” the tiny flock in whose members His light is manifested, and joined them. And the few who did found those in darkness railing against God’s light (Word) as well as those who spoke and wrote it. Nothing has changed over the centuries. But we who believe and obey the Father are in the best of company. Our ultimate examples of light-sheading followed by rejection are Jesus of Nazareth and His apostles.

Many people came to Jesus’ light while He walked the earth for 3 1/2 years. The Canaanite woman came to receive deliverance for her daughter. The ruler came to have Him raise his daughter from the dead. Multitudes came to hear Him and to receive food, healing and deliverance from Him. The people  of Samaria came to Jesus when the woman at the well told them that He had told her everything she had ever done. Large numbers of people also came to His true ministers for the same reasons.

Multitudes came to Philip when he preached in Samaria. Large numbers of sinners came to John the Baptist in the wilderness to be baptized by him for the remission of their sins (John’s baptism is not to be confused with Christian baptism–see John’s Baptism). Cornelius the Roman centurion and his family came to Peter to hear the Word–see the light–of his God. Many people came to hear Paul preach as he traveled throughout the civilized world. Kings came to Joseph, Daniel and Mordecai for help because they saw God’s light in them. Ruth announced that Naomi’s God would be her God because she saw His light in her mother-in-law.

We who claim to be children of God must understand that we are His light to the world–His Word manifested in human beings–beginning with our immediate families. Though a true believer’s family is usually the last to follow him (most never do), they are the closest to him. Through his “walk”–the life he leads–he becomes his loved ones’ “keeper,” this in spite of the fact that they are normally his/her spiritual foes (Mat. 10:36). A “foe” is an enemy who actively contends with the saint. This fact is irrelevant to the one whose heart is set on obeying God’s command for righteousness. Jesus said that He would separate family members into two groups–those who follow Him and those who do not (Mat. 10:34-38). This is a hard spiritual pill to swallow, but swallow it (take up our cross) we must. This is why God tells us to count the cost of following Him before we decide to do so. Where we go, with whom we associate, what we say and do, what we watch, read and hear–all serve as our witness to those who know us. They will react either positively or negatively to our light. Unfortunately, the vast majority react negatively–the more religiosity they proclaim, the more negativity they express because they see the Lord’s light as darkness.

Let us be certain that our “light” is not “darkness,” which is the case with the Counterfeit Church. As God said, “If the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness” (Mat. 6:23). Everyone sends forth light. The question is: Is one’s light God’s true light (Word/Truth-Jn. 17:17), or Satan’s perverted light (Gal. 1:6-9). Satan’s perverted gospel/lighty comes in the form of the church’s heathen doctrines which God calls “doctrines of devils” sent forth from Satan to his seducing spirits who implant them in the hearts of professing Christians through their master’s false prophets (1 Tim. 4:1). See the Introduction to this website for a list of pagan doctrines embraced by the whole of Catholicism/Protestantism as “Bible truth.” Want to hear real Bible Truth?
