Why the Holy Bible?

December 30, 2014 by Larry Jaques Leave a Comment

A rich man tells his son: “Obey me and I will leave you everything.” The son replies: “Okay. What do you want me to do?” The father replies: “Just obey me and you will inherit all.” The son replies: “How can I obey you if you do not tell me what to do?” Excellent response. The answer to the question is the reason God gave the world the Holy Bible.

As is the case with any set of rules or requirements that man must follow, in order for there to be uni- formity of both requirements and compliance over an extended period of time the policies must be recorded in permanent form. Otherwise, men will change them to suit their own particular wants and wills. This is especially true in religious world.

God gave His first set of rules to Moses on Mt. Sinai, wrote those rules in stone and placed them in an ark that human hands could not touch (2 Sam. 6:6,7). Following the defeat and scattering of the Tribes of Israel, He hid the ark in order to keep man from finding it and changing His stone-etched rules for attaining eternal life. For any human entity, be it one or millions, there must be a written standard to which each person must compare his thoughts, beliefs, actions, words, etc. to determine if he is right or wrong. In the case of the followers of the Biblical God there is only one Standard–His Holy Bible.  Otherwise, anyone wanting to gain a religious following could merely state his contrary beliefs, convince a number of people to agree with him, separate themselves from the Standard-obeying group and call themselves a “church.” Sound familiar? It should, for this is the process by which Catholicism and Protestantism came into being.

From reading the epistles one soon realizes that it did not take long for Satan to instill within the hearts of certain men the desire for leadership. To gain a following such a false prophet needed to draw people away from God’s minister in each location. To do this he presented a “new and improved” version of God’s Word–a version that appealed to man’s ego/flesh rather than his heart. Satan’s deception of Adam and Eve is a prime example of this process. The apostles, particularly Paul, spent much time and energy warning the churches about such these “ministers of righteousness” (2 Cor. 11:15) who represent the “angel of light” (2 Cor. 11:14) who sells God-seekers on a “perverted” gospel (Gal. 1:6,7) that puts forth “another Jesus” (2 Cor. 11:4). Two thousand years later we find that their admonitions fell on mostly deaf ears. Satan’s success in drawing the masses away from the Holy Bible, and therefore God Himself (Jn. 12:48), is made clear by examining any phone book and looking under the heading: CHURCHES. This listing will dispel any belief that Satan’s divide-and-conquer strategy has worked to perfection. By examining the steps Satan utilized to create the hundreds of organizations that make up the Catholic/ Protestant system one realizes that the heathenization of the professing church did not come about by accident; the process was exquisitely well-designed and explicitly implemented. Let us examine the steps involved in the apostacizing of professing Christendom.

First, Satan convinces a local church member that, relative to God’s Word, he has a “better perspective” than God’s Bible-centered minister. Armed with his extraordinary insight into all things religious, the false prophet convinces a significant number of people that parts of the Bible are no longer relevant and must be either ignored, changed or done away with altogether. He begins with the Old Testament, doing away with it totally except for those few passages that are too ingrained in religious man’s phyche to be eliminated–the Ten Commandments being a prime example. The irony of this is that the prophet then convinces the group that God has ordained man to eliminate one of the commandments (#4) and replace it with a more common sense, user-friendly option. Second, the prophet convinces his followers that, though they are rejecting most of God’s Inspired Word, they are not rejecting God Himself, that John 12:48 is a lie, as is most of the New Testament. Third, he convinces the group that, though there are many other such break-away groups, theirs is the only one that God recognizes as “the church”–the only one He has sent forth into the world with the “truth.” Fourth, the group’s self-appointed leader makes certain that his followers are not exposed to the entire Bible. To prevent this he tells them repeatedly to avoid those Scriptures that expose his religion as bogus–passages that have not been approved by the church hierarchy. And if anyone should sin by listening to or reading any portion of the Bible that has not been approved, the false prophet has an explanation that will nullify that portion of God’s Word. Lastly, he sees to it that the organization trains its future leaders to stay the religious course, believing and teaching only those portions of the Scriptures approved by church leadership.

In that the Counterfeit Church was brought into being while having the Bible printed and available, one can only wonder what would be the condition of the church today had God not recorded His Standard. Those who revere, believe and obey His Standard will sit with Him in the Kingdom of God (Rev. 3:21), ruling and reigning with Him forever (Rev. 20:6;22:5). Peter warns that judgment is ongoing in God’s church, and that only the righteous therein will be saved (3:12;4:18). This being true in God’s church, one can only shudder when contemplating the future of the Counterfeit Church. It is for this reason that God commands those inside her who realize that they are going in the wrong direction to come out of her and stay out. Only then will He be their God and they will be His children (2 Cor. 6:17).
