God’s Message To The Hebrews (Ch. 7)

Chapter seven verses one through ten: In the last verse of chapter 6 Jesus Christ is described as God’s high priest after the order of Melchisedec. As shown in Genesis 14:18-20 Melchisedec was the priest of the Most High God,  which by interpretation meant that He was the king of peace and righteousness. In verse 3 we are told that Melchisedec had neither father nor mother nor offspring, and had neither beginning or ending of life. Notice that Melchisedec was not called God’s Son, but rather is said to be “made like unto the Son of God.” There has been much speculation as to whether Melchisedec was in fact Jesus Christ or some other holy personage. I do not claim to know the answer, but I do have an opinion. I believe that Melchisedec was the Word (Jn. 1:1-4,14)–the God of the Old Testament–before He came to earth as Jesus of Nazareth. Notice that the same thing was said about Him as was said about the One who was in the furnace with Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego (Dan. 3:25) and the One who appeared to John (Rev. 1:13)–He was “LIKE THE SON OF GOD.” In both Daniel and Revelation we know that that One was in fact Jesus Christ. I contend that the One called Melchisedec in the Books of Daniel and Hebrews was also the One Who was born of a virgin and named Jesus. I believe that the One like the Son of God in Daniel was the Word Who was “in the beginning” (Jn. 1:1-4,14), the One Who was the King of salem and peace (Heb. 7:1-3) and the One Who was the Alpha and the Omega (Rev. 1:11). The One who appeared in Daniel 3 was the Word in His original spirit form Who changed into a material man as He had in Genesis 18:1 and would do so again in John 20:19. In Genesis 18 Abraham recognized the “man” standing before him as his God, having met Him years earlier when He first appeared to him (Gen. 12:7). Though I would not declare that Melchisedec was the Word transformed temporarily into a flesh man as written about in Hebrews 7 Who had walked the earth for several years as described in the four gospels. I so believe it to be so and will continue to believe it until someone shows me the error in my thinking. L.J.
