In my college teaching days I would routinely warn my students that specific things were going to take place in our society. They assumed that I had lost my mind. Such things could never happen in their beloved nation. With rare exception what I foretold would take place, and usually sooner than I predicted. How did I know the future? As I explained to them, in order to predict what will happen in the future one must study the past, observe the present, determine how we got from where we were to where we are, then use that information to determine future events. While following that formula one must keep three things in mind: 1) change is constantly taking place in all areas of human society; 2) the rate of change increases with each generation; 3) each generation is invariably more liberal and accepts fewer restrictions than the previous generation. Take transformation for example. From the Garden of Eden to the mid-1800’s man either walked, rode a four-footed beast or rode on a hand-made vehicle pulled by a four-footed beast. Then came the invention of the internal combustion engine. Less than 100 years later America had placed a man on the moon. In sociological circles this is known as “cultural acceleration.” Since that world-changing invention, every aspect of human life has been accelerating faster with each generation. For example, in the early 1900’s in Fayetteville, Arkansas a vehicle traveling more than 12 miles per hour was required to have someone at the front of it ringing a bell to warn people to get out of the way. We now have minimum speed laws. At one time the national speed limit was 55 mph. People will no longer tolerate such a restrictive law. For a more graphic example of social change and how liberalism affects it, check out the “advancements” in women’s clothing styles that have taken place over the past 100 years. What women wear in public today would have gotten them arrested in days gone by.
Change in one area of a society invariably brings about change in all areas of that society. The Institutional Church is no exception. If she is not at the vanguard of change, she will eventually embrace whatever change comes along. Whether that change is good or bad is irrelevant; the church will retain her position in the world system at all costs. God declared that the world would view His people as “peculiar” (1 Pet. 2:9). They would be rejected, hated and despised by those around them (2 Tim. 3:12). However, the modern church will do whatever is necessary to be accepted by those whose values she has embraced and whose approval she craves.
Historically, change has been as constant and radical in professing Christendom as in the rest of the world. If the Lord’s apostles should arise from the grave and enter the modern church they would not only not recognize it, they would reject it, as has the Lord Himself. What Jesus taught His apostles to teach His church has been replaced by heathenistic doctrines, beliefs and customs as this website and my YouTube site have been proclaiming for several years. Everything the apostles were taught by their Lord has been rejected, resulting in the church’s rejection of the Lord Himself as He warned in Luke 10:17. Conservative (Bible believing) church leaders who faithfully taught the Lord’s Words have been replaced by “Bible scholars” who teach whatever their congregations want to hear. Consensus within professing Christendom is that the Biblical God has no place in the New Testament Church. However, she has afforded Him emeritus status, which makes Him a mere figurehead. But He still has a part to play in the Counterfeit Church. Though Catholics and Protestants have rejected Him as their Lord, they have graciously kept Him on as Savior. L.J.
