From whence came devils/demons? This question needs to be answered. But first we will revisit the subject of creation in general. As we will see, demons did not simply appear; they were created. We are told that God created all things. Did He create demons? If so, why? If not, how did they come into being? These and other questions will be answered in this posting. To answer them we need to examine the creation process.
Technically, God (WAHWEH) did create the entire universe in the same sense that Henry Ford created all Ford vehicles. Mr. Ford personally touched less than 1 hundredth of 1 percent of the cars “built” and is still “building.” God Himself did not do the actual creating of the universe. He told the Word (“Spokesman”-Adonai) what He wanted done. The Word spoke God’s commands and the Holy Spirit made what He spoke appear. In Psalm 104:30 King David explained the creation process in a general way: “You (the Word–the God of the Old Testament Who became Jesus of Nazareth) sent forth your (Holy) Spirit and they (all things) were created and you renewed the face of the earth.” Note that two creations are mentioned in this one statement. We are not told how many years, or thousands, possibly millions of years transpired between the first part of the sentence and the last seven Words. First, God (through the Word by the Holy Spirit) created the original universe (“all things”). Then He REnewed (made new again) the earth, but not everything else in the universe at that time. The Word “renew” reveals that the earth had to be “fixed.” What happened to it, as well as the rest of God’s creation (including one-third of God’s angels) is the subject of this posting. Let us begin this historical study.
The actual beginning of the Bible’s historical account of creation is found the first chapter of the gospel of John, verses 1-3 and 10. Here we are told that: “IN THE BEGINNING was the Word, and the Word was WITH God and the Word WAS (also a) God. The Word was in the beginning WITH God. All things were made by Him (the Word), and without Him was not anything made that was made.” We know that the actual Creator of all things was the Word by what is written in verses 4,10 and 14 where we are told that: “In Him (the Word) was life, and the life was the light of men.” Jesus said of Himself: “I am the light of the world.” In verse 10 it is written: “He (the Word-Creator) was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world did not recognize Him.” Verse 14 states that He (the Word–the only begotten of the Father) was made flesh and dwelt among the disciples. We are told in verse 18 that no man has seen God (the Father–WAHWEH). However, thousands of people saw Jesus. In summary, God commanded that the universe be created, the Word spoke His commands and the Holy Spirit made His commands a material reality. In this way the universe was created in the beginning.
Fast forward to Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning God (Elohim–Gods) created the heaven and the earth. We are not told how many years–possibly thousands, millions or even billions–transpired between verses 1 and 2. “And the earth was without form (Heb.-tohu) and void (Heb.-bohu),” meaning in a state of confusion/chaos/disorder. However, in 1 Corinthians 14:33 Paul states that God is not the Author of confusion, but rather the Author of order. So what happened to turn the earth into a chaotic mess covered with water? Before answering that question let us understand what “heaven” means Biblically. Jeremiah tells us that heaven is everything from the earth’s surface upward. The earth’s heaven is where “the fowls of heaven build their nests” (Eze. 31:6). That there are at least three levels of heaven was stated by the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:2. The third level is where Father and Son reside today. Now let us determine what happened to the earth that necessitated its reparation/renewal (Ps. 104:30) as stated in Genesis 1:2.
“And there was war in heaven” (Rev. 12:7). We find that Lucifer (“light bringer”) rebelled against God and convinced one-third of God’s angels to follow him. A great war ensued between the angels who stayed true to God and those who followed the devil (“enemy”). It was during this war that the earth, along with the planets, were made tohu and bohu. Pictures from the moon and other planets show nothing but tobu and bohu. One day they will look like the perfected earth. Read God’s Very Elect: Future Caretakers of the Universe. Key word–Caretakers. Today Satan and his fallen angels (devils/demons) are on earth and in the heaven above her where they tempt people in the same way Satan tempted Adam and Eve. As did Jesus of Nazareth, man must choose whom he will obey, either God or Satan. In spite of the beliefs of some 2 1/2 billion church sinners alive on earth today, there is no gray or warm area in the spiritual realm. One either obeys God or Satan. Sinners obey Satan. If, that is, we can take God at His Word. Read God’s letter to those in the modern (Laodicean) church whom He refers to as vomit (Rev. 3:14-20). They “cast God’s Truth to the ground” (Dan. 8:12) and call themselves Sinners Saved By Grace.
As the Scriptures make clear, neither Satan nor his demons can force man to do or not do anything. They operate on the temptation level relative to sin. They do, however, have power to afflict man with sickness, disease, deformities, etc. when man chooses to give in to their temptations. Parents are responsible for their children’s spiritual guidance until they reach the age of accountability, from which point they make their own spiritual decisions. When contemplating this Scriptural Truth, remember that those who are looked upon by the church as “good” are not good in God’s eyes. They are not His people because they refuse to obey His Word as this website has proven hundreds of times. If they were God’s people they would not be in whatever church they are in. God pours out His wrath on saintly old Mrs. Jones just as He does on the prostitute, the thief, the liar, the adulterer, the homosexual, the murderer, etc. Sin is sin, and the wages of sin is death for all sinners, including all SSBG who “know” they are “saved” and therefore free to sin at will because of God’s supposed limitless grace. Jesus warned such people about what He will say to them when they stand before Him and tell Him what good Christians they were. He will say: “I never knew you, depart from Me you who practice iniquity (Lawlessness)”–Mat. 7:21-23. In the next posting we will study the work of Satan’s fallen angels during Old Testament times.
