All things, whether good or evil, begin in the mind. For this reason, all people, regardless of their mental advancement, or the lack thereof, have the capacity for thought. Because of man’s ability to think, there are enough thermonuclear weapons on earth today to destroy every man, woman and child several times over. Thinking man has developed a bomb that is almost 4000 times more powerful than the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima, Japan. The mind of man has created weapons capable of killing the physical aspect of his fellow man that is designed to exist only about 80 years. The mind of man has also created a weapon that is capable of killing the spiritual aspect of man that is designed to last for eternity.
The human mind does not control itself completely. The mind does not have the final say relative to the direction it will ultimately take. The mind’s ultimate controlling factor is known as IDEOLOGY. Ideologies are mental constructs that declare a people’s concept of right and wrong. A people’s concept of right and wrong determines their attitude toward other human beings–whether to hate and kill them or love and help them. Ideology ultimately controls the mind that harbors it. For this reason ideology is far more powerful than any device man can create.
Therefore, an ideology that declares that there is no such thing as right and wrong is the greatest power of all in that it leaves that conclusion solely in the power of man himself. Such is the foundational principle of EVOLUTION, which makes it the most powerful weapon known to man. Multiplied millions of people have committed and are committing spiritual suicide by agreeing with Charles Darwin who, in 1859, published a book titled On the Origin of Species. That book, along with its sequel, The Descent of Man, created an academic revolution that has affected man’s concepts of himself and God for a large portion of humanity. Because of Darwin’s “scientific truth” relative to evolution, he and those who have taken up his banner believe that creation as we know it came into being without the benefit of a creator.
This idea of creation without a creator has existed since the days of the Epicurean philosophers who held intellectual sway over the society that was ancient Greece. The belief remained mostly a Greek concept for thousands of years until 1859 when Darwin penned his world-changing tome.
In On The Origin of Species and its sequel Darwin argued that all organic life descended from ONE PRIMORDIAL ORGANISM–a one-celled amoeba from which evolved all organic life as we know it. By providing a “scientific” hypothesis that God does not exist, Darwin revolutionized man’s concept of himself as nothing more than the current product of nature’s on-going evolutionary process.
In simplistic language, the theory of evolution is built around the “truth” that human beings are nothing more than distant relatives of insects, rodents, fish, birds, animals, mosquitoes, etc. one of which, over time, evolved into human beings as we know them today. Which brings up the question: At what physical and mental point along the evolutionary path is mankind today? One has to wonder what man will look and think like thousands of years in the future. Who knows, he might have wings.
Bear with me as I put forth a few statements and questions before we get into the meat of the subject. If man evolved from a single, one-celled amoeba, and if reproduction depends on sexual intercourse, and if an organism cannot have sex with itself, from whence came that one-celled amoeba’s first offspring? and with what did it mate to create that first baby amoeba? and with what did that amoeba mate, and so on and so on, the end result of which is modern man? In conjuction with that question I would present the premier foundational principle of science: YOU CANNOT CREATE SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING. Therefore, from whence came that original one-celled amoeba? From nothing? Sorry, Charlie, you can’t have it both ways. But according to his “scientific findings,” Darwin managed to convince the scientific world that it is wrong when the subject is the evolution of man. Today, billions of people agree with him–many of whom claim to be Christians. It has been reported that nearly half of evangelical Christians believe in evolution. About that same number also reportedly believe that abortion is acceptable. Could there be a connection between the two beliefs? Yes. If the baby one is tearing apart is no different than the cockroach you just stepped on, the abortion is nothing more than ridding the world of another unwanted pest.
Traditionally those within professing Christendom have believed that MORALITY is God’s definition of right and wrong. If Darwin is right–that God does not exist–how did man come to have a sense of right and wrong? In The Descent of Man Darwin addressed that question. He wrote that the moral faculties of man are not inherent (inborn). Rather, MORALITY IS THE EVER-CHANGING BYPRODUCT OF MAN’S EVER-CHANGING MENTAL AND PHYSICAL BEING.
Those who believe the God of the Holy Bible believe that morality is the unchanging God’s unchanging sense of right and wrong, and that He implants that sense in the mind of man at the point in life known as “the age of accountability.” This is the point in our lives when we take responsibility for agreeing with and obeying what God has instilled within us–MORALITY. This life-directing point usually comes at around the age of five or six, depending on the mental maturity of each individual. For the true Christian, morality is the starting point for his/her Christian walk and the moral growth that accompanies it.
To the contrary, those who follow the evolutionary ideology believe that morality is the invention of the human mind. And because moral evolution coincides with physical evolution, man’s definition of right and wrong is in a continuous state of change. The evolution theory contends that the evolution of man’s mind brought about the concept of right and wrong, therefore ever-evolving man has the right to change the definition of right and wrong to match his evolutionary status.
