Due to a motion picture titled The Matrix, a term made famous by the film is being applied to a certain type of people who manifest a particular mental profile. Being “RED-PILLED” means that one’s mind-set makes him/her willing to learn NEW TRUTHS. As is usually the case, the new is presented by the pill-dispenser as a vast improvement over the old, regardless of how good the old has proven to be or how long it has been “the truth.” I did not watch the film, but after hearing that “so-and-so has been red-pilled” in a political or social sense, I decided to learn more about the term. In so doing I learned that another pill had also been featured in the movie. This pill was blue in color. I learned that the pills produced mental actions that were either good or bad, depending on what the pill provider wanted the pill receiver to accept as THE TRUTH. The age-old practice of “brain washing” comes to mind.
Being “BLUE-PILLED” means that one is locked in on a traditional, established truth and is unwilling to change. Being spiritually-minded, I automatically slipped into the Bible mode and began applying the two terms to the things of the Lord. Doing so, I found that the red-pilled/ blue-pilled mentality picture perfectly described the state of professing Christianity as it exists today in that the religion consists of representatives of both persuasions with red-pilled believers greatly outnumbering their blue-pilled counterparts. In short, those who are ‘blue-pilled” by the Lord through the Holy Spirit are the Law-keeping purists whom God calls His “little flock,” His “peculiar people,” His “chosen generation,” His “royal priesthood,” His “Holy nation” who have “come out of darkness (of the world and the worldly church–2 Cor. 6:14-7:1) and into His marvelous light.” (Exo. 19:5/ 1 Pet. 19:5). God’s few blue-pilled saints will rise to meet Jesus in the air in the first resurrection, descend with Him to the Mount of Olives, walk with Him into Jerusalem where He will create the Kingdom of God where He, the Father and Their firstfruits will live for eternity. Read The Kingdom of God and God’s Very Elect: Future Caretakers of the Universe. Key words–Kingdom and Caretakers respectively.
Having created his own standards of right and wrong (Prov. 21:2), religious (“red-pilled”) man judges himself by those standards, determines himself to be right, then proselytizes others. Jesus describes such salvation seekers in Matthew 15:8,9: “These people honor Me with their lips … but their heart is far from Me. In vain they do worship Me, teaching instead of My doctrines the commandments of men” (Mat. 15:8,9). To them He says, “… you reject the commandments of God (the Law) so that you may keep your own (church) traditions (Mk. 7:9). “Why do you call Me Lord, Lord and do not what I say” (Lk. 6:46). He will say to such blue-pilled salvation seekers on the Day of Judgment: “… I do not know you, depart from Me you who practice INIQUITY” (Gr.-Lawlessness)” (Lk. 13:27). Red-pillers (tares) are in for much “wailing and gnashing of teeth” (Mat. 13:36-50). Note in verse 41 that all are guilty of the same sin–INIQUITY–THE BREAKING OF GOD’S LAW WHICH DEFINES SIN (1 JN. 3:4), WHICH SEPARATES THE SINNER FROM GOD (ISA. 59:2).
Both red and blue pill consumers all believe and proclaim that they know Christ intimately, however: “… we know Him IF we keep His commandments (Law). He who says ‘I know Him’ and does not keep His commandments is a liar” (1 Jn. 2:3,4). About such people, Paul says that they “… perish because they receive not the love of the Truth that they might be saved … God sends them strong delusion so that they will believe a lie. They all are damned who believe not the Truth” (2 Thess. 2:10-12). These red pell people “prefer the approval of men” over the approval of God (Lk. 6:26). Read John 8:31; 14:15,23; 15:10/ First John 2:2-3 and 3:1-10 (note vs 4) and Matthew 19:17.
May we all search our hearts for the Truth (God’s Word–Jn. 171:17) relative to the red pill/blue pill situation that dominates professing Christendom. Read Who are God’s People? and “My People Called by My Name.” Key words–People and Called respectively. May we do an honest, Scripture-based assessment of our spiritual state and do what we are commanded to do by the Great Commander. L.J.
