In a previous series titled God’s Very Elect–Future Caretakers of the Universe I wrote about the Lord’s plan to turn His creation over to those who had obeyed Him during this era in man’s history. In that series I used the second chapter of the Book of Hebrews as my focal point for revealing this most important and glorious Truth to those who believe the Holy Bible. The ultimate question involves how to qualify for this promise the Lord made to “whosoever will.” In other words, whosoever will … what? What is it that “whosoever” must do in order to receive this astonishing promise? The key to being made a caretaker of God’s entire creation can be condensed into one word: emulation–the act of copying someone else. This is the essence of a cult. Contrary to popular belief, a cult is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, one must become a cultist (emulator) if one is to qualify for eternal life.  Christian emulation refers to the act of copying the words, acts and thoughts of the man Jesus Christ while He walked this earth. Jesus and His disciples constituted a cult. We must join His cult if we are to inherit salvation and all that goes with it. His words, acts and thoughts are recorded in the Holy Bible and are presented to God-seekers as His “commands.” Whosoever emulates them will one day rule the universe.

Because God views His Book of Commands as a single, inseparable entity, He often calls it His “commandment” or “Law” which He condensed into ten commandments/Laws and wrote them in stone with His own finger. He emphasizes the singularity of the Bible in the Book of James where He states that to break (transgress) even ONE of His commandments is to break His ENTIRE LAW (Bible)–James 2:10. True Christians–God’s Very Elect–react to those commands in total and strict obedience because God defines the breaking of any one of them as sin in 1 John 3:4: “To transgress the Law is sin; for sin is the transgression of the Law.” The wages of sin (Law-breaking/iniquity) being death (Rom. 6:23), the true believer knows that in order to inherit salvation and universe rulership he must obey God’s Word/Law/commandment/commandments/Truth without fail. To disobey one is to disobey all, making the Law-breaker one who “works iniquity.” Iniquity is defined as “Lawlessness.” Jesus vowed to reject all workers of iniquity on the Day of Judgment (Mat. 7:23). Note that in Matthew 7:13,14 Jesus refers to Law-breakers as the “many” who enter Satan’s wide gate and walk his broad path to destruction. Contrarily, a “few” Law/commandment/Truth (Jn. 17:17) keepers find God’s strait gate, “strive” to enter it, and after doing so, walk His narrow way to salvation. Many, He warns, are called to do so but few will be chosen for having done so (Mat. 20:16). Let us all be among the “chosen few.”

In Hebrews 2:1-9 we find the writer (thought by many to be the Apostle Paul) warning the Hebrew Christians (and us) that they must be careful not to let the WORDS they had heard slip away from them through unbelief and/or disobedience. Beginning in verse five the writer makes a startling statement that is believed by only a few within professing Christendom. Here he states that it is godly men, not angels, that will be the caretakers of God’s creation in the eternal future. Though made a little lower than the angels in this present life, God’s Very Elect will judge His angels (1 Cor. 6:3) and will have the entirety of God’s creation as their personal activity area. Godly men will be crowned with glory and honor and will have the works of God’s hands (the universe) placed under their feet (vs 7). God has promised to place ALL THINGS under the control of His Very Elect.

However, as verse 8 tells us, we do NOT YET see all these things taking place. “BUT WE (DO)SEE JESUS.” He is the One we must emulate by totally sanctifying ourselves unto Him if we are to receive this most precious of promises. Those who believe and desire what God has promised “see” Jesus always before their spiritual eyes. Man tends to become what he repeatedly views. It has been found that in driving or flying, the direction the driver or pilot is looking is the way he goes. The body tends to unconsciously follow the eyes. This is why we need to keep our eyes straight ahead of us while we are driving. Many a driver has crossed the white line while looking at something to his right, or crossed the yellow line by looking at something to his left. By stating that we “see” Jesus in this life, the writer of Hebrews is telling us that in order to spend the next life with Him we must emulate Him in this life. We must go in His direction by keeping our eyes on Him. We must “walk as He walked” (1 Jn. 2:6). The salvation seeker must continually “purify himself even as He is pure” (1 Jn. 3:3). One who would join Him on His universe-ruling throne must “overcome even as I (He) overcame (Satan)” (Rev. 3:21). These commands are possible only by continually focusing our spiritual eyes on the Word of God–the Holy Bible–God’s Truth (Jn. 17:17). By studying, believing and obeying what we see in the Scriptures we emulate Jesus Christ, Who Himself is called “the Word of God” (Jn. 1:1-4/Rev. 19:13). By continually “seeing” God’s Word we become what we see–“THE WORD MADE FLESH” just as Jesus “saw” God’s Word, obeyed it and became “the Word made flesh.” As I have so many times stated: EVERYTHING COMES BACK TO GOD’S WORD–the ONLY information we have about the Father and the Son. We must become like them in thought, word and deed if we are to join them in paradise. L.J.
