The Apostle Paul is continuing his evangelistic schedule, never staying in one place more than a couple of months.
Verses one through six: After leaving Ephesus Paul journeyed to Troas where a group of believers were waiting for him. In verse 6 we are told that the group had remained in Philippi until “after the days of unleavened bread” (Passover–this year [2017] the Holy Days are celebrated April 10-17). The group deliberately remained in Philippi until that time in order to celebrate the Passover there. Otherwise, why mention it–why plan an activity around a celebration that no longer existed? Modern day church leaders who refuse to believe God’s Word offer a variety of reasons for the group remaining in Philippi. Though high-sounding and tradition-affirming, their explanations do not negate God’s Truth (Jn. 17:17). In the Book of Acts we will find that the early church observed all of God’s Holy Days. The Book of Acts was written in the early 60’s A.D.–some 30 years after the founding of the New Covenant Church. Surely, if the Lord had done away with His Holy Days at His death, 30 years would have given the apostles enough time to get the word out. But such was not the case. As with the 7th day (Saturday) Sabbath, observance of the Holy Days was still in effect in New Testament times and remains in effect today.
Verses seven through twelve: Paul has called a group of disciples together in Troas in order to share a meal together. Due to a lack of either knowledge of or faith in God’s stated Word, the entirety of professing Christendom has used the Troas gathering as “proof” that God changed His Holy Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. This deadly error is made possible by Satan’s power over the mind of religious man. Specifically, he has deceived church people into reading only what they want to read and hearing what they want to hear relative to God’s Truth. Let us read/hear what HE says to us and thereby shed the light of Truth on Satan’s lies that form the foundation of professing Christendom. Note that in verse 7 the Lord plainly tells us why the group met–to “BREAK BREAD” before departing the following morning. The fact that they met on the 1st day of the week (Sunday) was incidental and had no significance. They met to eat a meal and enjoy a time of fellowship prior to leaving the following morning.
Following the meal Paul took the opportunity to preach to them. The point here is to dispel the notion that the group met to hold a church service on Sunday–a regular work day for the church. As is plainly stated, they met simply to share a meal on the evening prior to departing from Troas. The fact that Paul used the opportunity to speak to them from the Scriptures has no bearing on the Sabbath issue. Satan, through Pope Silvester I, changed the Sabbath from the 7th day to the 1st day of the week at the Counsel of Laodicea in 365 A.D. Both secular and religious historians affirm this fact. As a result of Satan’s deceiving powers (Rev. 12:9), Both Catholics and Protestants routinely commit iniquity (Lawlessness) by obeying his dictate. See The Mark of the Beast. L.J.
