The Bible is the written record of God’s way of life, the way in which He commands all people conduct their lives. Those who obey His commands will spend eternity with Him in His earthly kingdom. Those who do not will be burned to ash in the Lake of Fire. Those who obey Him will walk on the ashes of those who do not. This is Bible Truth. The entirety of His Truth He calls His Law which is summarized in the Ten Commandments which He Himself wrote in stone with His finger.

The question we must each repeatedly ask ourselves involves our individual obedience to that stone- etched Law. That Law, as we are told in 1 John 3:4, identifies (defines) both righteousness and sin– righteousness if we obey it; sin if we disobey it. Ironically, the vast majority of those of us who call ourselves God’s children claim that He nailed His Law of Life to His Son’s cross. God’s Law is His governmental standard by which He governs His true saints. The question is: how many church people are governed by His Law? In Matthew 7:13,14 He declares the answer to be “few.” Though those who call themselves by His name are “as the sand of the sea,” only a “remnant” are truly His people who are governed by His Law–the Holy Bible.

Perhaps the most important principle found in God’s Law is that those who voluntarily live under it do not vote. God’s way of rulership is not “government by the consent of the governed” as we find in all free nations. In His system, the governed have no say in the matter. Their responsibility is singular–to obey His Law. And therein lies the problem. Man has pride “which comes before destruction.” Man demands the right to create his own spiritual standards of behavior. These are called “church doctrines.” Those who adopt certain sets of doctrines are called “denominations,” which God abhors.

As was noted in the previous posting, religious man’s rejection of God’s singular Standard has resulted in the creation of some 700 versions of that Standard, each of which God rejects. In Revelation 3:21 Jesus said that those who “… overcome as I overcame” would sit with Him on His throne in the Kingdom of God. The number one thing man must overcome is Satan-induced pride (self-centeredness). Man’s pride causes him to reject God’s My-way-or-the-highway brand of rulership, as did Adam and Eve.

In stark contrast to the way of Adam and Eve was the way of Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus was a man under Law. He stated that He could do nothing of Himself, that even the words He spoke were given to Him by the Father. By thinking like Him (Phil. 2:5) and living like Him (Eph. 5:1) true saints are preparing to rule with Him (Lk. 22:29) in the coming Kingdom of God. If, as we are told by Satan’s false prophets, we are incapable of doing this, then Jesus will be alone on His throne throughout eternity. Are they right? Each of us must make that determination.

The Prophet Jeremiah lived during the time when the nation of Judah was in rebellion against God’s Law. The Law was being “trampled under foot” by them as they granted to themselves the power to make their own rules. Jeremiah continued to warn the Judahites (Jews) that their insistence on self-governance would lead them to defeat, slaughter and enslavement when God turned His back on them as He had done to their Israelite brethren several generations earlier. Everything he warned about came to pass. The Babylonians defeated Judah and carried of the survivors off to Babylon where lived in slavery for 70 years.

The self-professed “Christian world” has followed in Judah’s spiritual footsteps. Rejection of God’s Holy Word has caused Him to turn His back on them. God is “no respecter of persons.” What He did to both Israel and Judah He will soon do to the self-professed Christian world. Why? Because, like their spiritual ancestors, they reject God’s one-Ruler governance style and embraced Satan’s self-ruler style. To find out what that invariably leads to one need only remember the outcome of Adam and Eve’s venture into self-governance. L.J.
