Biblical faith is believing God’s Word, which is His Truth, His will and His way. With that in mind let us look at Second Timothy chapter three for one of the most plainly expressed statements of God concerning His attitude toward His Word. “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come …” (vs 1). He went on to describe many of those in today’s church who have “… a form of godliness (churchivity) but denying the power thereof” (by refusing to obey God’s Word) (vs 5). Timothy and other of God’s true saints were to reject these false Christians because they would be “… ever learning but never coming to the knowledge of the Truth” (vs 7). To Timothy Paul said: “But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith ….” (vs 10). Then came another warning: “But evil men and imposters will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived” (vs 13). False prophets, having been led astray by those who taught them, would in turn lead others astray. These ministers are among those whom Satan has deceived (Rev. 12:9). “But you (Timothy) must continue in the things which you have learned …. From childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are ABLE TO MAKE YOU WISE UNTO SALVATION through FAITH WHICH IS IN CHRIST JESUS” (vs 15). The same faith that is possessed by Jesus will, if emulated by the believer (including Timothy), result in salvation. Note that Paul united faith, Scripture and Jesus Christ together–they are inseparable.
In verses 16,17 Paul summarizes God’s attitude toward His Word: “ALL Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness ….” Everything one needs to know about God, His Son, His church, His will and way are found ONLY in the Holy Bible. Nothing therein can be changed, added to or removed from in that the unchangeable Word will, if believed and obeyed, make “… the man of God complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Paul warned the Church at Ephesus that even if one of the apostles, or an angel from heaven came teaching any other message, that messenger was cursed by God. Those who believe and obey them are also cursed. An honest reading of this website, which directs the reader to God’s Word, will reveal to the honest God-seeker that the Institutional Church is cursed by God.
God, speaking through Paul, was warning Timothy about perilous times to come. Because He commanded Timothy to “… continue in the things you have learned,” we know that the problems He was warning about were already beginning to appear in the church. Note how much ink the apostles used in warning the church of their day about false prophets who had risen up among them. God knew that those false prophets would give spiritual birth to the next generation of false prophets, who would in turn deceive the next generation of false prophets. This process of false prophet production and the heathenization of those who would follow them would continue until His second tenure on earth which would begin following the Great Tribulation. God foresaw what would happen to His church and was warning the apostles, and us, to fight against it. God established this ministry to warn those with ears to hear and eyes to see. God also counseled His people not to be surprised when the vast majority in the church turned away from Him and established their own versions of Christianity (Mat. 7:13,14). In Revelation 17:1,5 He names this great false church system, calling her “the Great Harlot,” “Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of Harlots and of the Abominations of the Earth.” Today we know her as Catholicism/Protestantism.
