In Matthew 24 we find Jesus and His disciples exiting the Temple in Jerusalem. The disciples draw His attention to the structure’s magnificence. He warns them of what would eventually happen to the Temple and the city in which it stood. They understand that He is referring to the last days of the world as they (and we) know it. Later they ask Him, saying: “Tell us, when will these things (the destruction) take place and what will be the sign (warning) of Your return and of the end of the world?”
The final stage of man’s (Satan’s–2 Cor. 4:4) control of the world would begin with the establishment of God’s church on the Day of Pentecost not many days later. Jesus knew that the first, most important and most dangerous sign that would take place would be the rise of false Christianity. Other heathen religions were already operating throughout the world. But they did not claim to be associated with the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Noah, the prophets, etc. He would now warn them about counterfeit Christianity that would rise up and become known as “the church,” a two-headed, religious scheme called Catholicism and Protestantism. Jesus knew that, just as the Serpent had quickly destroyed His first church in Eden, he (Satan) would immediately attack His (God’s) New Testament Church and would draw away most of her parishioners.
Jesus had warned the disciples about this earlier as recorded in Matthew 7:13,14. The devil would pull off this coup by following the pattern he had established in Eden and had been so successful during the days of the Old Testament prophets. Isaiah had specifically recorded the method he (Satan) had employed in drawing the Israelites away from the Lord. In chapter 30 verses 9-11 of his book he quotes the Lord: “This (Israel) is a rebellious people, lying children who WILL NOT HEAR THE LAW OF THE LORD. They say to the seers (prophets), ‘Do not see (visions from God); do not prophesy to us the right things of God. Speak to us smooth things (illusions–wishful thinking), tell us lies and deceits. Take another way; lead us off the path of God; remove from before us the Holy One of Israel” (Hebrew version). In verse 8 the Lord had told Isaiah to write what He was about to tell him on a clay tablet and also in a book (scroll) so that it would be preserved for the people living at the end of the age–“for ever and ever.” I have seen a portion of this scroll. The Apostle Paul confirmed this Truth in his first letter to the church at Corinth when he wrote: “Now all these things (God’s dealings with ancient Israel) happened to them to serve as examples and were recorded for OUR admonition (teaching).” He then explains who “OUR” is referencing. “OUR” refers to those saints “upon whom the ends of the world have come”–the true church in existence at the end of the age (10:11).
That the establishment of the New Testament (Covenant) Church would mark the beginning of the end of the age is brought out by the Apostle Peter on the Day of Pentecost when the whole of Jerusalem was wondering how men from all over the world (Acts 2:5), each one having his own language, were hearing the wonderful works of God proclaimed in their own tongues by people who knew only the Greek language. Peter explained: “This (tongues phenomenon) is that which was spoken by the Prophet Joel: ‘And it will come to pass IN THE LAST DAYS, says the Lord, that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh ….'” Jesus had promised His disciples that: “… you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. … You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you ….” (Acts 1:5,8). That power enabled the disciples to speak to people of different languages in their own tongues and to, “… be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in Judea, and in Samaria and in the uttermost parts of the earth.”
What Jesus warned the disciples about first–false Christianity–began to raise its ugly head immediately. Within two years Simon Magus had established a heathen religion in Rome, called it “Christian,” posed as Simon Peter and directed its activities. Just as Jesus warned, that church soon became “the church” which would kill over 50,000,000 people, many of them God’s saints, in her quest to rule the hearts of people throughout the world. Read Simon of Samaria: The Legacy for more information on this Satanic church and the daughter churches that came out of her. Not only did the “Great Whore” church called “Mystery, Babylon” and her “Harlot Daughters” (Rev. 17:1-5) come to dominate the religious world in days of old, they continue to do so today while posing as “the church” headed by Jesus Christ. Just as Jesus prophesied, “many” have been lured into her web of false religion. The Introduction page to this website reveals many of her heathen beliefs and customs that will be all too familiar to church people. Indeed, Satan has deceived the whole world (Rev. 12:9). The church world is his most prized prey. As Jesus said, His true church (strait gate) and her strict doctrines and practices (narrow path) must be searched for and found. Few, He warned would “find” His church, enter her and walk His (My way or the highway) path to the Kingdom of God. “Many,” He warned, would enter Satan’s church (wide gate) and walk his broad (any way you want it) path to destruction (Mat. 7:13,14). Many are called to enter God’s church and walk His path. Few, Jesus said, would be chosen for having answered His call (Mat. 20:16).
Satan has been ultimately successful in luring Scrupturally deficient salvation seekers away from the Holy Scriptures and to his false prophets whom he has trained to speak his perverted gospel (Gal. 1:6-9). As a result the Institutional (Catholic/Protestant) Church has blinded their own eyes and deafened their own ears to God’s pure word. Depending on their hirelings for “truth,” they have been seduced into spiritual whoredom with God’s ultimate enemy. Christ’s first warning has, for the most part, gone unheeded by the modern church world. Second Corinthians 4:4 states it as well as possible: “The god of this world has blinded the minds of them who do not believe God’s Word so that the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, Who is the image of God, could shine in them.” As the Apostle Paul warned in Galatians 1:6-9 and 2 Corinthians 11:4, Satan’s false prophets, preaching his perverted gospel, has caused salvation seekers to embrace another Jesus–the antichrist.
