In the Time Magazine March 8th edition referred to earlier we are told that over 200 Americans die every day from drug overdose. The vast majority of these drugs are used, not to relieve pain, but to produce euphoria–a sensual condition of other-worldly bliss. This altered state allows the addict to mentally and physically leave the real world behind and, momentarily, enter another world, a world that enables one to escape reality. However, the escape artist soon learns that his new reality (addiction) is far worse than the reality from which he had periodically escaped. He soon realizes that his new reality is a 24-7 living nightmare from which he can only escape by way of ever more, ever stronger drugs. So dominating is this reality that people have been known to sell their children, their bodies and property stolen from family, friends and strangers in order to feed their insatiable need for ever more escape providers. Committing murder in order to get money to buy their chemicals is not uncommon. There is no limit to the number of egregious acts an addict will commit in order to feed the demanding demon to whom he has prostituted himself.
Students of history will agree that any time a large segment of a population becomes involved in an unacceptable act, two questions always arise: 1) What causes the problem and 2) what is the solution to the problem? And as is always the case when man tries to answer the questions, the answers reflect man’s point of view. The problem with man’s answers is that they are always wrong, therefore the problem goes unsolved. For example, the Time Magazine writers summarized the cause and solution findings provided by so-called experts in the field of drug addiction. As expected, the experts’ cause and solution findings perfectly reflect the thinking of A GOD-REJECTING AMERICAN POPULATION. Let us examine their findings, which do not surprise those who know the Biblical God and believe His Words.
First, let us isolate the cause of America’s infatuation with drugs. After much study and reflection, the experts concluded that the cause of America’s drug problem and the problems resulting from it is THE AMERICAN SOCIETY ITSELF. According to the experts, it is you and I that have caused the drug epidemic that is sweeping the nation. Therefore drastic changes must immediately take place in US. Those in the know tell us that WE, Mr. and Mrs. America, are the problem that is causing these innocent souls to squirt heroin into their veins, suck cocaine up their noses and pour pills into their stomachs. It’s all OUR fault; WE are the cause of the problem. Not only have the “experts” isolated the cause of the drug epidemic, they have also figured out the solution to it. Recall that it is the American public that must change. So what changes need to take place in us that will alleviate the problem? First, we must stop viewing drug addiction as a moral failure and begin calling it what it actually is–a disease, like pneumonia or cancer which comes on an innocent soul through no fault of their own. According to these experts, the desire for drugs TAKES THEM BY SURPRISE AND OVERTAKES THEM IN THAT THEY ARE HELPLESS TO PREVENT IT. Evidently, the life-style, attitude and everyday experiences of the American public force these poor souls to use drugs in order to escape the rest of us. The drug dependent addicts, we are told, are special and need to be treated, catered to and provided for much as we do our children. Therefore, as a society we must rearrange our mode of operation so as to provide an environment that will make potential drug users happy and comfortable so that they will not need chemicals to help them make it through life. And for those who do not want to avoid drugs, the government must use the guilty society’s tax money to provide such things as clean needles, good food, clothing and safe areas where dopers can shoot up, sniff up, etc. in clean, germ free surroundings. Also, the government must provide medical personnel who will see to it that their charges do not harm themselves during their visits to that other world. No expense must be spared in making things comfortable and healthy for the nation’s adult children who are, we are told, innocent victims of “the system.” L.J.
